Michael Andretti claimed that it wasn't money what kill the deal, but control. Apparently the deal Sauber was pursuing, didn't gave Andretti control over the team, just ownership.

It’ll be fine. They’ll just work a few people to death (literally) and F1 will go ahead.

Looks good. Very retro decision to have no runoff areas, but instead draw natural track limits with 60s-styled streetlights and concrete blocks. Assumingly those guys sitting on the track (at 2:02) will be there during the race :p

Imagine we get there. Difference between Max and Lewis is small enough that whoever wins is champion. Come friday the track breaks up during FP1. FP2 is canceled. After all night repairs they head out for FP3 and track still breaks up. FIA has no other choice to cancel it. :whistling:

The layout isn't great - all fast kinks with little to no straight straights and virtually no heavy braking. It's like Valencia crossed with Sochi.

Perhaps it will look spectacular (like the final kinks at Baku) but not great for racing. There's hope for 2022 depending how close they can follow

The corner at the end of the second backstraight looks a lot faster than I imagined. Nice to see that pointless chicane removed in the first sector as well. Hopefully the racing improves, but it can't get any worse, can it? Should be much harder on the tyres as well.

interesting rumor in the Netherlands from Chris Woerts. Guy is a sports marketing guy with lots of connections and was the first to break that Ziggo would lose the tv rights in the Netherlands. So a fairly credible source.

Assen is said to have the finances in place to run a 2nd GP in the Netherlands starting 2023.
Formula 1 does have a history of milking the popularity of a driver by having 2 GP's in their home country (Schumacher in Germany, Alonso in Spain) so it's not completely out of the question it could happen.

Zandvoort does claim they have an exclusivity contract and even if there would be a 2nd GP in the Netherlands it must be held at Zandvoort but if Liberty/F1 wants a 2nd GP in the Netherland and Assen can afford it, it will happen.

Interesting to see how this will develop. If it happens, both races will be sold out in no time and other races wont even feel it as the crazy Dutch will still go all around the world to see Max race.

I feel that Assen is mainly a bike track...that big first sector is still around, or it was demolished when they made the current one?

Superleague Formula had some fantastic races in assen, champcar race there was good too. Better track than Zandvoort imo

Assen and open-wheel racing always remind me of this

Good old TBK's open_wheel_crash126a and 126b

It's Saudi Arabia. They can design & build entire buildings quicker than most countries even get through the feasibility phase, based on how they work the labour over there...

Bodyguards will be told to bugger off from the grids - if only Liberty realized celebs on the grid are expendable to begin with.

Are they real celebs, to begin with?

I have no idea who the fuck is that Stallion girl, or that Kego dude or something that pressed a button after the mexican podium.

Just because you don't know them doesn't make them not real celebrities. Those two are very, very successful music artists - I didn't say good, I said successful. Kygo makes great music (in my opinion), Megan Thee Stallion doesn't make my kind of music but is very popular.

She has more followers on social media than F1 does, so ya.... she has some reach (but I'd never heard of her before too)

I guess I’m out of touch, then.

Still, to me, celebrities should transcend genre or type of art or whatever. Being household names. I mean…I don’t know any song by Justin Timberlake, I haven’t watch any of his movies, but I know very well who he is. He’s a celebrity.

Fuck it, I still listen to Deep Purple. I’m an old fart.
