that lap was porn

Mika Salo usually finds some mistakes or places to improve from every pole lap. Now he didn't say much until after the last corner he said that "I'm speechless. I don't know what to say. The best qualifying driver in the current grid in the best car." That's easy to agree. And I completely understand why even Hamilton himself was a bit dazeled about it in the grid interview. That was pure epic flow rush.

I've seen many great laps, but this really deserves to be underlined. This should be shown in all the TV news today.

And I'm not even a fan of Hamilton. Nor an F1 fan that I used to be.

F*cking Halo, thou!

Was fooled into thinking we might have a close season there for a while.... oh well :(

0.664 gap back to 2nd place and a 2 second gap back to 5th (well 6th really thanks to Ricciardo's penalty). At least Bottas starts in 10th though, so it's hopefully not going to be a complete domination. :innocent:

With how Lewis is driving, I don't see him even getting close to losing the win here.

That lap was stunning to watch, he absolutely nailed it. Also, I just have to say the way the car just darts into the turn 11 coming off the backstretch is insane. I can't imagine how that must feel to be driving a car that can turn that violently.

Look at the slowmo Sky F1 showed with Di Resta after Qlf. The way the car and the suspension takes care of that inside curb, it's mighty.

Looks like rain after the race

I still see some showers on the radar though, so iono.

Engine mapping is everything in F1 and I feel it still doesn't get enough coverage. Tyre wear & brake bias is old school thinking and it would be deemed completely irrelevant if we had refuelling back. We just don't know how much these teams are holding back and the only thing that keeps Mercedes from pouring down it's full might is the engines per season limit. Otherwise Hamilton would probably smoke everyone away by this margin over one lap every single time IMO.

Dry at the track atm, but we all know weather predictions this early in a GP week are useless ;)

At the same time the season engine limit makes it harder for others to catch up.

Because reliability is more important than performance these days so teams put there resources behind the former. Literally one DNF can make the difference (see 2016).

Showers will come after the race :8:

Any bets on Verstappen hitting at least 1 Ferrari at turn 1 or 3?

So ESPN just cold opens to a static camera with no voiceover or graphics saying what the hell we are watching. What a joke. If you are in the US, flip on ESPN2 now. They just dumped the feed it's a disaster.
