That was a bad way of waking up, I turn on practice 1 and the first thing they say is that they will only broadcast half the races next year (only qualifying and race, no practice I think). Who ever came up with this deal is a complete idiot, why would anyone sign up to Sky for 10 exclusive F1 races a year? The BBC reaches millions around the world with their excellent coverage. I'm so angry

Sure I can still watch the races on some other channels with commercials and crap commentators, but not in HD and not with the BBC quality of interviews and analysis.

It would have been better to have another FTA channel to broadcast the other 10 races. ITV or Channel 4. Yes there would be commercials but everyone has the chance to see it then. Isn't this still possible? BBC only acquired the FTA rights for 10 races, so the FTA rights for the other 10 races are still available.

And what about the contract BBC had until 2014? Can they just cancel that? They already paid for that so do they get their money back?

When BBC got the rights in 2009 I was very happy, I thought I was set for 6 years without having to look for another channel to see all sessions live. But I don't want to sound selfish, I feel the most sorry for the Brits who can't afford Sky and will only be able to see 10 races live next year. How will that work? Will they alternate each race or will they show like 5 races on BBC and then 5 on Sky? I'd imagine BBC won't show F1 when there are football world championships on or Olympics.

In May this year Bernie was saying F1 going to Sky would be suicide.

I'm not stupid. They paid to show al F1 sessions live until 2014, but from next year on they will only show half of the races and no more free practice sessions. But it's already been paid for, why not show it then? Did Sky pay them of?

Yeah, but Mark Blundell is interested in a job there. Judging by Skys pundits, he'll get the job.

Jake is a BBC drone and will always praise the BBC in whatever decision they take.

In his position, I'd do the same. It's better for Jake himself, really, because he can do the Olympics next year without having to worry about F1.

They'll still be showing every race but only half of them will be shown live, so presumably that still adheres to the terms of the contract. Either that or they had some form of get-out clause written into the contract.

The deal was apparently struck between BBC & Sky, not with Bernie. But seeing as he's happy with the deal, I don't see the issue. He's happier because half the races will now be on both BBC and Sky.

Interesting poll on Atlas (booooooo!) asking people how they will watch F1 next year. 111 have voted. 22 either have Sky Sports or will upgrade their existing Sky package. The number of those 89 left who will subscribe to Sky? 1.

I know, I just posted something about his comments on another forum. What an arrogant twat. I will remember this. Martin Whitmarsh fares little better. The lives of these people have nothing in common with the common man/woman. No doubt many of them have to share the ruthless nature of Ecclestone to get to the top in a particularly elitist 'pinnacle of motorsport'. I hope some sponsors will leave the sport and state it was because of this TV deal. Only way to hit Bernie and the teams, with taking away some of their money.

Apparently the BBC's deal is in the region of £45m/a year at the moment. This new deal will save them £16m/year So they're saving a third, yet showing half. I'm not trained in business or economics, but that doesn't sound like a great deal to me.
