According to a trackside photgrapher, Alonso just slowed down and crashed out at reduced speed. It's possible he lost consciousness while driving. Just heard the news on Sky Sport.

Maybe a debris hit him and damaged the front wing as well ?

We have to wait for official information from Mclaren.

I haven't heard it discussed since early last season but are the drivers still aggressively dieting and exercising to keep their weights at an extreme minimum?

There are some nasty bugs around. Hopefully just that.

A bit of an odd one, if true. Hamilton sat out with a fever earlier this week, so a bug in the paddock is quite a realistic possibility.

Lots of speculation going on on Twitter. Electrocution is one theory. Anyway, he is conscious and talking to his doctor, his physio and his team in the hospital.

Eric Boullier has said that the impact set the FIA G-force light system off & that requires mandatory checks at the hospital.

Button was scheduled to be back in the car this afternoon anyway & they still plan to get him out for some laps.

I doubt that since you have to be earthed for current to pass through you, and when I went to school rubber wasn't conductive, so unless he got a shock from the car grounding out and it earthed itself that way, I'd say that theory is highly unlikely.

They upped the minimum weight for that reason.

I guess he's alright. He also had some issues at Abu Dhabi when he experienced a lift off and went for exams

Vettel has apparently told the German media that he was behind Alonso who was driving fairly slowly at the time, Probably Less than 150kph when the car just seemed to suddenly go to the right & into the wall.

Hope it's a 1 off occurrence for Alonso, it's great to have him on the grid.... Has there ever been a time when a driver just passes out on their own?

Just reading one of the rule changes for this year, that prohibits the use of tyre warmers. Was just curious to see what teams would do to get the tyres somewhat warm? One idea would be to leave them out in the pit lane & let the sun heat them up? I know that on a hot day, if you are in a car, the temperature inside can be 50-60 degress, so maybe leaving them in some kind of poorly insulated storage locker could help?

I can see during the wet races it'll be even more tough.....

Here's what Vettel said:

Sebastian Vettel befand sich im entscheidenden Moment direkt hinter dem McLaren. Auch der Ferrari-Pilot fragt sich, was da passiert ist: "Er war direkt vor mir. Er war relativ langsam - ich schätze so 150 km/h. Er ist dann einfach rechts rübergezogen - es sah gar nicht wie ein Unfall aus. Er ist dann ein paar mal an der Mauer angeschlagen. Dann habe ich ihn aus den Augen verloren."

And in English:
Sebastian was right behind the McLaren in the decisive moment. The Ferrari driver himself wonders what happend: "He was right in front of me. He was driving relatively slow - I guess something around 150 kph. Then he simply moved to the right, it didn't look like an accident. He bumped into the wall a few times. Then I lost sight of him."

That rule change never happened, Tyres warmers are still allowed this year.

They felt that banning tyre warmers with the current 13" tyres was not safe because they had trouble getting them upto the operating temperatures. Thats a part of why they want to go to larger tyres because the larger tyres get upto temperature faster.

Alonso has had a CT Scan & been given the all clear.

Alonso's manager just said on Twitter he never lost consciousness and he was not ill. Button won't be going out and the team is packing up. Something doesn't add up with Seb's account, the initial reports from the scene, and what McLaren and Alonso management are stating. Perhaps there was an issue with the car they are covering up?

Denny Hulme had a heart attack while racing a BMW M3 during Bathurst 1000 in 1992. He crashed after that
