But with 10-6-4-3-2-1 point system (and with no sprints or FL points) not only Haas, but Alfa Romeo, Williams and Alpha Tauri would all have finished the season with zero points.

But that´s an old discussion. Cars are way more reliable now. 30 years ago you had a good season if you only had to retire 4 times in 16 races. 26 starters, 10 finishers was not rare. So sometimes, surviving alone was enough to finish 5th or 6th.

that's how Moreno secured the first point for AGS at Adelaide in 1987, in what was basically a 1985 Renault built in a shed with a Cosworth engine, finished just 3 laps behind though

Safety cars and unlapping rule does part of that, but if you had finished exactly one lap before winner, you would have scored four points this year:
9th in Monaco
10th in Hungary
10th in Brazil

As a comparison in 1988:
6th in Brazil
3rd in San Marino
4th in Monaco
4th in Mexico
4th in Canada
3rd in USA
4th in France
6th in Britain
6th in Germany
5th in Hungary
6th in Belgium (8th in chequered flag, promoted by Benetton DQ)
5th in Australia

That's 28 points with the system which gave much less points.

All of these are pretty good points to validate my argument about the RB19 being the best of the best :whistling: Won everything in a super reliable era with stiff competition whilst having pretty big restrictions placed on them....

And the poorly kept secret is now official.

I think this is the first time ever that the full line-up has been kept from one season to another.

The right decision. Sargeant was clearly improving towards the end of the year and Williams didn't have any alternatives who were very likely to be better.

Yes. 2009 had the old record with two changes (Vettel replacing Coulthard and Buemi replacing Vettel).

Refreshing to see a modern F1 team give a young driver time to improve.

There was just a lack of alternatives, that would have hit the reset counter back to zero. Understandable decision.

Whilst he looked slightly better towards the end of the season, losing 22 - 0 in qualifying and destroying several cars was a terrible season, even for a rookie. I don't think any other F2 front runner would do any worse, but maybe he'll prove me wrong next season.

this also shows how F1 needs to change some stuff, like having more cars and teams that can give more shots to F2 alumni

Yeah, if there were 13 teams, no way they would all keep the same drivers each year.
But F1 is afraid of changes (except of changing things that should be left alone).

some sources are reporting that Brad Pitt might scrap all the racing footage of his movie and do it all over again

I can see this whole thing entering development hell, or is just Pitt blowing Apple's money

Post subject:  Re: 2023 Formula One Random Discussion Thread

The article states that it was a change in sponsor for the scrapping of the footage. Seems rather odd considering practically every single movie nowdays is a CGI fest and wouldn't be all that difficult to do. Was it scrapped because it just wasn't any good?

I thought it had something to do with the writers strike, and any previous footage they'd filmed, they couldn't use anymore
