I made a quick sample of the onboard channel for BBC, if they don't want it to be full screen this is how they should do it IMO: http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/549/f12009.jpg . Small ticker at the top and a small screen with the main feed, but maximising the onboard feed.

Premiere's onboard feed always bothered me that it had no info, no lap times, no standings. I was always wondering if I was missing stuff so I usually switched back to the supersignal after 2 minutes of onboard channel.

I would like that indeed.

At present the OnBoard channel will be stand-Alone feed online, but sadly only avaliable as part of a Split-Screen mosaic on TV :x

The BBC have said they will review things after the 1st races so hopefully things will change & it will become avaliable stand-alone on TV as well. I really don't like the idea of only making it avaliable as part of the split-screen on TV, I'd much prefer it to be a stand-alone channel so it could be watched Full-Screen like on Premiere & Sky Italia.

Here is the post about it on the BBC Sports Editors Blog:
Quote:
I had a chat with my colleague Matt Millington again today and (1) we want to re-emphasise his point that we'll review audience feedback early on in the season; and (2) the on-board cameras will be full-screen on this website, so it's only on red button that they'll be part of a mosaic.

Due to the largely negative reaction thus-far about the OnBoard only been part of the split-screen on TV, Im optimistic they will make changes when they review everything.

Quite frankly, a standalone Onboard Channel with no infos at all (standings, lap times, rev counter, etc) is boring as hell. If the FOM adds inserts, then it's fine. But otherwise people are gonna get bored after some time.

I'll agree that sometimes watching say a full race from the OB Channel 'could' be boring, however it would be nice to have the option as for practice especially its nice to be able to switch around the various channels at times, especially if there's a particularly intresting Onboard angle active (DC's Helmet-Cam at Brazil for example).

The thing I always liked doing though for Qualifying/The Race was to have a 2nd TV setup next to my main one so I could have both the World-feed & OnBoard channel's on Side-By-Side (World-feed from ITV, OV from Premiere). I always found that the OB channel was a great addition to the coverage when viewed like this. There were times for instance when you would see something happen on the OB Channel that was missed Live on the World-Feed or just missed completely.

Depending on the layout of the split-screen having both on at the same time side-by-side may not work as well this year, especially if the OB feed is the smaller of the 2 feed's on the Split-Screen as it is on Premiere's Split-Screen. Past few year's when I've been watching on Premiere, I hardly ever used there Split-Screen, I spent all my time flicking between the World-Feed & OB during practice & as I already said watching both during Qualifying & the Races.

The other reason I don't get there decision is that they already have a Split-Screen showing all there Red Button feed's, OK it's not laid out very well for watching all there active feeds, but if they made some alterations to that they could easily make that more watchable & allow the OB to be selectable Stand-Alone.

For example, Right now there Multi-View screen looks like this, This could be seen as BBC's version of Premiere's SportPortal:
Image

With the exception of the main Feed the others are in boxes too small to view well.

However if they made some changes during F1 events, they could easily use that as the Split-Screen & still have the OB channel Stand-Alone selectable, here is a quick Mock-Up example I made a few days ago to show what I mean:
Image

They do something similar during the Wimbledon tennis event to make all the feed's more viewable through the Multi-Screen so they could do the same during the F1 broadcast's.

Let's say I was going to Toronto-ish, Canada for the Aus GP. And "Digital" was available. What channel would I use for F1? Speed? Fox? I have no clue what airs it into that area.

wtf... You have to pay an additional fee for F1 coverage, and then you still get commercial breaks.

well, they already had loads of advert breaks before and after the coverage in previous years, but never during an actual event. Maybe Murdoch will realise that advert breaks during events won't work on Pay-TV in Germany when everyone's leaving

Is that even legal? You pay for uninterupted coverage and then they throw in adverts to get even more money? I'd say cancel your subscription and point a satellite dish to astra2 for the bbc channels.

maximum 2 breaks of 30 seconds during the race

And the skyscraper-thingie won't be during the race.

It is better than on RTL+, that's the good thing about it. It sucks however.

Sky Sports been doing this for years.
Interestingly they are not allowed to do it during Football & Tennis, but free to interrupt coverage of other sports at will here.

Haven't seen it mentioned yet, but United States coverage will pretty much stay the same as before.
13 of the 17 GP's will be live on SPEED, including Second Practice and Qualifying.

FOX will air the Turkish, British, German, and Hungarian GP's in same-day delay (SPEED will still carry practice & qualy of those races live).
