Bahrain expecting all-Champion attendance
13 January 2010

Organisers of the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix are hoping to welcome all living Formula 1 World Champions to the Sakhir venue. With four of them being in this year's line-up, the first remaining Champion to clinch the title is Sir Jack Brabham, who did so on three occasions between 1959 and 1966.

With the Manama track set to host F1's first race of the season after doing so previously four years ago, the attendance of all 20 living Champions is set to mark the 60th birthday of the World Championship, which began at Silverstone in 1950.

"This will be a truly special occasion, especially for all those who love F1 and who have been following the sport for many years," commented Martin Whitaker, Chief Executive of the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), which kick-starts the season on 14 March.

Numerous title-winning cars are also expected at the desert circuit to add to the excitement of the decade's first F1 race.

Also this week: Bahrain on alert for pre-season tests

Am I counting wrong or was 2009 the 60th season for F1?

Nope, good counting on your side, if 1950 was #1, 2010 should end on a 1 ;). Maybe is there a season between now and 1950 that didn't count as an official championship or something?

why does Bernie have to continue to slam the new teams down?? Why not be positive about them so he doesnt scare potential investors away??

Also Dutch media reports that he wants an option that a car can cut the track 5 times in a race so they wouldnt be following eachother all race long.
Signs of him getting senile are growing each day.

For the people who want to read some dutch ;). It's ridiculous, I always thought that F1 couldn't survive without Ecclestone, but if he haves ideas like this, please Bernie, retire!!
