I know it's a cut and dry penalty, but watching PdR go over it on the Sky pad it's pretty fucking stupid to expect the drivers to be able to see these flags 100% of the time. And apparently race control turned off all the yellows, re-enabled DRS etc and told everyone to carry on but obviously that message didn't get to the marshals. Teams and drivers were getting mixed messages

On tv it went from yellow to green to yellow.

I'm just going from what Horner said. My point is they had nothing on their dash, light panels weren't yellow, DRS was enabled, the only yellow flag was on the other side of the circuit to the stopped car, miles away from the track because of all the run off, with a bright blue light panel immediately before it to add to the distraction. How are you meant to see that at nearly 200mph?

I meant the scoring box overlay. It showed yellow in sector 3. Then switched to green again and then yellow again.

Final grid has Bottas in P6 for some reason.

Which is where he should be really.

Now Mercedes and Ferrari are having to swap places.

that's what I thought. The scoring in the screen is directly connected to race direction, right. Is not like someone operating using race direction guidelines or so

what an utter bulshit, they fucking compromise the championship battle simply because they don't assume their mistakes

I swear it’s Netflix. Like last week it took ages to come up with the eventual penalty and both cases are fairly clear from the start. Just creating drama

FIA is graduating with merits from the FIFA school of refereeing. Do all the shit you want to ruin the sport with bad calls to show up in the news more than the drivers

But Alonso who was in front of Bottas was on a hot one and he slowed down.

Yeah I think he said he saw the stopped car and assumed there would be yellows/reds, I don't know if he actually saw any flags. Again, I'm not arguing that it shouldn't be a penalty, I'm arguing that the situation was completely unclear

Unfortunately, that's the common sense that F1 often lacks. It's qualifying and there is a car stopped on the track. It's a given that you aren't improving on this lap.

True. But if you back off and the other guy doesn't, and then race control say "yeah you're all good, no yellows", you're going to feel pretty stupid

Weird grid. Could become rather messy at the start.
