Remind me when he's been driving lazy?

I've been very hard on Kimi over the past few years, but aside from a couple of occasions this year he's been very solid and quite unlucky.

So, there has been a lot of talk about Leclerc signing for a race drive in Ferrari starting the next season.

I think for him, to jump to Ferrari after just one season of F1 racing, may be too early, considering the pressure that comes with driving for them. But I also thought, back in 2006, that it was too early for McLaren to put Lewis in a top drive, so I don’t really know.

But now, the last few races led me to believe that Kimi still has it, and it’s more of being comfortable in the car, rather than outright speed. Would I replace him, if I was in charge of Ferrari? I don’t know that either.

So, here’s what I think it’ll happen:

- Ferrari won’t take much risk for next year. They’ll keep Kimi.
- On the other hand, it seems that Haas is getting a bit fed up with Romain. The 4th place finish in Spielberg seems more like a fluke, than a return of form. Last weekend being the example of Grosjean being Grosjean.
- Charles Leclerc replaces Grosjean for next year in Haas, race drive for Ferrari in 2020.

I could add Ferrari placing Tony Gio in the Sauber, alongside Tetra Pak boy.

The way I see it that he was great when he made his comeback, winning with an underdog team and being a real player. Then three things happened. The Silverstone tiregate, switch from V8 to hybrids and move to Ferrari, which was in crisis at the time. From 2014 Ferrari and Räikkönen have been constantly improving. Fourth thing that really didn't suit for Kimi was Ferrari's pullrod front suspension, which they ditched for 2016. And after that we've seen the gap between Vettel and Räikkönen decreasing significantly.

Now, let's just wait and see once he gets his qualifying lap all worked out. My money is on that he can get a pole this season and a win or two at this rate.

If Vettel isn't running 2nd, sadly.

Kimi getting repassed by Verstappen sums him up perfectly for me. Doing an OK job, but ultimately just not good enough. There doesn't appear to be any killer instinct with him, and when you are 38 doing a solid if unspectacular job instead of being 20 and out performing your car, you should expect your seat to be taken from you.

There is just more upside potential with Charles than Kimi. Charles is only going to get better while Kimi is only ever going to be the same and decline. I feel the only reason why Kimi is there is to not upset the apple cart with Seb. That's why talk of Ricciardo going there was only ever a pipe dream. And it is the reason why Kimi will probably be retained.

If it was any other team LeClerc would have gotten the seat. Verstappen, in general, handled it just fine and he is younger. The kid got talent and together with Verstappen I can see them dominating F1 for the near future.

Engine rules for 2021 might change again.

So now the manufacturers want to keep the MGU H

well, if the current ones were willing to change, to attract new manufacturers, but so far none of them have expressed they want to enter, then they might as well continue with the current engines, would save a lot of money not to redesign and re-engineering new engines.

It's time VW, Porsche and others make up their minds.

I predict the following

1: FIA sets deadline for new manufacturers to express intention to enter
2: Deadline passes and no new manufacturer shows intent
3: FIA and current manufacturers decide to stick with current engine rules
4: VW slam decision and say they do not want to join under the current engine rules.

5: Alfa Romeo and Aston Martin quit F1 before they actually entered

Yes as marketing tie ins, not as manufacturing, so those don't count as they haven't really joined the grid other than lend their name.

Robert Kubica has confirmed something that's been long rumored which is that prior to his rally accident he'd signed an agreement with Ferrari to race for them alongside Alonso in 2012 for less money than he was getting at Renault.

He also said that he nearly backed out of the rally because "the team I was going to drive for next year, I was not allowed to rally" but that he opted to take part in order to not let the team down.
