Was it that fast? In the 80s that chicane looked medium-speed really. They can do anything they want as long as they keep the Sebring turn untouched but I doubt it. It had very little run-off area IIRC, if any.

F1 needs one mega-ultra-fast turn. I mean a total beast, something you approach at 370kph and brake to around 300kph to make the turn, super-speedway style. Hell, make it negative banking with a slight crest at entry. And since I'm only partially a blood-thirsty asshole, I'd accept a tarmac run-off on the outside.

So after first agreeing with the drivers on the way the sport is being run Bernie now told them to shut the fuck up and just drive.

Current governance structure could remain until 2020.....at the rate they are going there will be little left of the carcass that is F1 in 2020.

There were paddock rumours on Sunday in particular that Sauber were at the end of their credit line and had no money to go to China - Kalternborn was not at Bahrain but back in Switzerland trying to garner the funds that the team need.

Today the idea that Alfa Romeo will buy the team has garnered some traction - James Allen makes mention of it in this article: http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2016/04/j ... eed-to-be/

Sauber has some serious issues going on at the moment and may sell to Marchionne to become the new Alfa Romeo F1 team or alternatively may withdraw from F1 competition to become an automotive consultancy, like Prodrive, using its quality facilities and wind tunnel to develop the kind of work it currently does with Audi, for example. This would save the jobs of some of the workforce, while the Alfa Romeo takeover would probably save more, but it’s a question of which offers better terms.

CoTA lowered their 3 day General Admission price to $150 for the USGP this year.

I'm sure Monisha can promise a few paydrivers a drive...

The location isn't exactly strategical now. Alfa Romeo would be cool, at least they would have backing, but another independent gone. Only Williams, Manor and Force India left.

that's what you get from having an attorney running a race team

the takeover of Sauber by FCA (by a very low price with a great windtunnel) and the independence of Red Bull from Renault are the last moves toward the full control of the championship by manufacturers

speaking of drivers, who Ferrari would call to race at a probable new Alfa Romeo team?

I wish F1 would just go back to the qualifying system they had in 2003:

There's no way you can make it interesting or fair in just one session. Either you put the championship leaders first and the pole is set after a couple cars, the rest being just backmarkers, or you reverse it and then you give a huge advantage to the championship leader.

That, or you go back to two consecutive sessions, set the order then run the real quali. We know how that has worked out.

they could also try a system used a long ago at Indy, of average time from 4 timed laps. not exactly 4 laps, 3 could go to award the most consistent driver on a very soft tire

Hmm...That could actually work. Send the last guy in standings first. Once he's completed his sector1 on the out lap, send the 2nd last guy out. Then once the last guy finishes S2, send a 3rd last guy out. These drivers would then hit their three lap average. Once the last guy of these hits the end of s2, you start all over with the next three drivers in the reversed standings. Everyone will watch until the very end as the championship leader will be the last guy to complete his run.

How is this better than the one-lap system? Sure we'll watch till the end but you're still giving the leader an even bigger track advantage with all the cars sweeping through his racing line and heating it up
