I found single car qualifying so boring that I have subconciously blocked it from my memory and only recal it if I stumble across a video of it on youtube.......no wait I tell a lie, the only memory I can recal is Ralf being Ralf and stuffing it into the wall in Monaco.

I remember there was a time at silverstone they thought it was going to be raining for qualy 2 so they spent qualy 1 all trying to go slowly and pretending to spin and such

oh, and that time minardi got pole due to it actually drying out in france so they had the best of the conditions....
obviously, only for the pre-qualifying session, that would've been too much fun ;)

it was boring because they had to use the racing fuel and in 2005 there was one tire set for the whole weekend

I think the current qlf format, would be much more fun to me, if the coverage focused solely on the cars and drivers that are fighting not to be eliminated in each session. Say, Q1, we focus on the Williams, Sauber, McLaren cars, shots from the garages, team radios, graphics. Q2, same with the FI, Haas, STR, etc.

But we just watch the Mercedes and Ferrari doing half-arsed laps to get through to Q2.

That's what I liked about single-car qualifying. We got to see every car's lap. And then, I jumped into the message boards, to get some awesome Minardi onboard laps or so.

But that's just me. Single car qualifying started just as we started to get qualifying sessions on TV. Even as I'm a viewer since the mid-90s, qualifying to me, was looking for the grid at the sunday's newspaper and watching a 5-minute highlight before the race broadcast. My first experience watching (live) qualifying, was with the single car sessions, so it holds a special place in my heart :p

Also, can any mod or the op, change the thread's title? I mean, we're almost halfway through the season. We got over it. It annoys me!

this system could stay but they should change some things, like that the tire you use in Q2 is the one you use in the race. let them choose the one they want to start, and also take the mandatory stop away

plus ban any boost gimmicks, not fair when 2 teams have and they monopolize the front row. Mercedes on pole makes me grind my gears

Yeah I liked the one lap qualifying and don't think it's gimmicky at all. It made for some great grids and consequently, interesting races. 2003 was a great year. :)

The years we had the 2 lap aggregate qually over two days was good for a laugh especially when it rained one of the days.

That wasn't aggregate in 2003, the Friday session only determined the order for Saturday's.

This is aggregate qual in the wet. A wet qual was just like VSC - a lottery.

The order that the cars ran was in mostly reverse finishing order from the previous race - Brazil 2004. Hence Montoya and Raikkonen were last out.

Yeah, I think the Minardis were still at the back after the Saturday session.

I was at Silverstone in 2004. Everyone cheered when Schumacher spun, before realising that everyone was trying to go slowly on purpose. Pretty sure the rain never came anyway. It was really stupid to watch.

I was there! We missed it because we thought we would be able to get in a quick round of karting, only to queue for so long that we missed half of qualifying. We did hear the cheer from inside!

It was overcast for nearly the whole weekend, but I still came away from it with a sunburnt head. Airfields are weather fuckers.

So, there has been a lot of talk about Leclerc signing for a race drive in Ferrari starting the next season.

I think for him, to jump to Ferrari after just one season of F1 racing, may be too early, considering the pressure that comes with driving for them. But I also thought, back in 2006, that it was too early for McLaren to put Lewis in a top drive, so I don’t really know.

But now, the last few races led me to believe that Kimi still has it, and it’s more of being comfortable in the car, rather than outright speed. Would I replace him, if I was in charge of Ferrari? I don’t know that either.

So, here’s what I think it’ll happen:

- Ferrari won’t take much risk for next year. They’ll keep Kimi.
- On the other hand, it seems that Haas is getting a bit fed up with Romain. The 4th place finish in Spielberg seems more like a fluke, than a return of form. Last weekend being the example of Grosjean being Grosjean.
- Charles Leclerc replaces Grosjean for next year in Haas, race drive for Ferrari in 2020.

Kimi gets renewed for next year and suddenly he comes back with a lazy driving but the pocket full of cash
