Having signed a new agreement earlier in the season, the team with their limited budget are going to try and sever the contract with its lead driver at their own cost. |

If they allready knew they would sign Pic for next year, they would put him in the car in the FP, not Wickens. |

Or maybe MVR have a contractual obligation to run Wickens in a Friday session as he is the current test driver? |

Schumacher extended his contract with Mercedes through 2013. |

Ah, interesting. That means he's taken up his third option year from the original contract and added another. Atlas' Nostalgia Forum breathes a sigh of relief. Also reading that he has a further option for 2014 if he wants to. |

Double DRS in Abu Dhabi, both on the hideously long straights. |

With that kinked straight, was it the one that Alonso tried to get past Petrov but nearly rammed into him from last year? |

I read the article wrongly, its just the two really long straights. Please ignore my stupidity. |

kals wrote: Oh FFS just give up please. That was my opinion throughout last season and early 2011. However, I think he's actually doing a pretty good job at the moment. It's a shame he doesn't qualify as well as Rosberg, because his race pace is actually rather good. |

See I hate reading stuff like that. Afterall, all he's doing is getting middle to lower end of the points. That's poor expectations really if you think that's doing a good job. The Mercedes may not be that strong compared to other teams but its been designed to suit Schumi and he's still not able to beat his team-mate regularly. Jeez for the first time in two years (after India) we saw Rosberg finally get pissed off with the special treatment Schumi is getting over him. Schumi's having fun fine, but he's past it. Give it up. Stop hoping for something that's never going to happen. He's depriving someone more deserving, a future star a top level drive. |

I don't entirely disagree with you (As a childhood Hill fan I've never been that keen on Michael ). But I do think that the Mercedes is clearly the 4th best car, so whilst 7th and 8th place finishes aren't amazing, I think that's exactly where they should be. I've always rated Rosberg very highly, so I expected him to still be able to beat Michael, whatever the car was like. Of course it would be fascinating to see how things would have turned out if the car was built around Nico instead, but I still think 2011 Michael is stronger than 2010 Michael. Good enough to keep a younger talent out of the seat? I wouldn't like to answer that. A young driver could probably be on his pace given a season or two, and would then certainly be a far better prospect for the future. But at the same time I like it that some of the older guys are still able to stay competitive. In the past we saw a lot of drivers carry on into their 40's, whilst recently you'd struggle to be in demand once you hit 35 (For example, I feel guys like Fisichella could have still offered something if he'd stayed at Force India a couple for seasons). I guess in an ideal world there would be 30+ cars, and more than enough seats to balance young talents with older veterans. |

Fascinating yes but he's been very mediocre throughout these last two years, bar a couple of performances (like Canada). Remember, this is the team that at the start of 2010 said they would be fighting for wins, then late into 2010 they said they were concentrating on 2011 to ensure they would be fighting for wins. The same was then repeated in 2011. Over the last two years Rosberg has performed better but everybody keeps lauding Schumi for these mediocre results. That's stupid really. Michael's had his time. He's not done enough with his return to F1 to deserve an extention. End of. And I was a Schumi fan when I was younger. |

My only question -- how much marketing value does the Michael Schumacher name bring to the team compared to any other driver? It might be financially worth their while even if he isn't super competitive. |

Based on more recent form, I either have to rethink my opinion on Rosberg or believe that Schumi has brought himself up to a competitive level (although not necessarily one with a huge amount of Qualie pace nor his previous level). So, yes, I probably would give Michael a chance, I don't rate his current form lower than a great number of the rest of the grid. |
