I didn't understood what they meant with "extraordinary machines on the coolest race tracks"

That's nothing more than Bernie's toilet paper for the next time he takes a dump. As much as I agree with the drivers, nowt will change.

Empty statement. Only shows how no one can actually change anything.

I don't think so. This is a final warning. Unless they start listening to the drivers there will come a weekend very soon where they once more choose the hotel room over the racetrack.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Yup, without the support of the drivers, "they" can only go so far.

Sky's acquired exclusive F1 rights starting in 2019, apart from the British GP.

I hardly think so. Drivers are employees of organisations whom are bound to contracts with FOM. Any attempt to strike would result in multiple forms of litigation.

This isn't 1982.

the teams can't allow strikes because Bernie worked very good to keep them under his control

unless they bend the rules and put other drivers to replace those on strike

The Concorde Agreement is another contract between the teams and FOM (and the FIA). It might not last the year. The only thing that is required is a little mettle and willingness to see a process through to the end. I would not be certain that any contract between FOM and anyone else would survive a legal judgement.

More on the Sky deal - they have now taken control of all the coverage including highlights and re-runs, and will show it 'for free' after the live races (on a channel that you will need a Sky box to receive). Channel 4 will therefore finish their experiment after 2018.

Drivers don't have the balls to do anything. The USGP of 2005 was a great example. The whole gpda is a joke. It was formed to increase safety. What is Wurz doing in there anyway? And Button will be gone soon. They're employees. Unless they have the balls to sit out a GP, their letter is just that.

I was hoping C4 could get the full rights in 2019, who the he'll sells the rights so far in advance? What if C4 grows the F1 audience, they won't put much effort in it now that they know they'll loose the rights anyway

I get the feeling 4 never bought the rights in the first place, along with BT & Eurosport, 4 has quiet a close relationship with the BBC with regard to sports coverage, they often share events, and share rights, when this deal was first announced my assumption was they were just getting the rights from the BBC on the cheap, it all happened far to quickly for there to have been any major negotiations going on.

There is heavy political pressure on the BBC to scale back their spending, which is quiet frankly out of control, so it wouldn't surprise me if, like when Sky acquired the rights in the first place, there was some sort of deal done, both times it has seemed to be a case of 'get that expensive F1 coverage off the BBC' first, and worry about the ctul cost second, when Sky took over the coverage there was a huge horar over how much it would save the BBC, but the reality was it saved them nothing and actually cost them more in the long run.

It wouldn't surprise me if the same has happened and the 4 coverage is essentially just the BBC coverage subcontracted to another channel, most big programming on the BBC now isn't even produced by the BBC themselves.
