BBC Radio 2 talking to Horner and Dennis regarding noise levels. Seems like the general media are even more worried about this than actual fans. Very odd.

just a question, were the 80s turbos deafening? Like the V12s, V10s and even V8s?

If they were about the same noise level as now, I can live with it. If not, shame.

Pretty cool shots. Thanks for sharing. Love the Turn 1 incident shots.

Critique? Try to stop down as low as you can when shooting from behind the fence. And get close to it as possible to try and get it out of the way as much as possible. it is a bit too visible on some of them which is a shame, cause I really like the composition (unfortunately, the fence is one of the biggest headaches when taking photos at a circuit).

I don't mind the new engine sounds, it's great to hear the turbo and I love that we can hear more of what is going on with the car too, but Damn I'll miss that scream, a different beast.

People are always finding something in F1 to target. Last year it was Pirelli, this year it's the noise.

It'll be something else next year.

Yes, the noise isn't as loud as it was before, but it still sounds sweet. It's just a different sort of awesome.

It's a good comparison.

Although I'm not too critical about the new sound, I do think we shouldn't criticise the people who are.

Sometimes that happens a little too often around here.

yeah I agree, not sure why people are getting so defensive about those who are not fans of the new sounds, it is after all subjective, some will hate the new and some will love. I agree it's tedious when people go on and on about it though (Oops I've made two posts about it now!). That's my quota up.

Matter of taste, yada-yada... I really like the poppin' and bangin' sound that the turbo's give, as well as the ground shaking sensation of a normally aspirated F1 engine. The engines of the 2,4-era was not at all my favorite, but putting in an early 90's 3,5 V12 or a Group 44 Jag V12 isn't really feasible. Creating an engine formula just because it will sound good would be quite daft.

regarding engine noises I have no complaints at all. But broadcasters should at least raise the level (something I would like to hear since V10 era) it's insane at the track when everybody passes by in the start

Definitely agree with you there. I think they're missing a trick when people at the circuit can hear tyre noises etc, but you can barely hear the engines over the commentators.

on MotoGP broadcasts usually commentators halt for a while and raise the volume, as they recall as "engine's anthem" with a high enthusiasm
