Looks like turn 19 is "the corner" of this track, as the commentators build up a bit of oversteer and a run off into the tarmac runoff into something dramatic.

I liked the layout a bit more after FP1. Some corners seems more challenging than I previously thought like T7-8. The penultimate corner, as I expected, is quite nice too, now it's kind of confirmed. The drivers were using the tarmac run off all the time there.

T16-18 will definitely be flat out in qualifying/low fuel but it will be a challenge in early part of the race and for other series, LMP1 apart which I also think will be flat out.

The only thing that I still need more time to evaluate is from T3-5. From a Webber onboard, it looked like it could be all flat out, at least on low fuel, but from an Alonso onboard it seemed that T5 needed a lift. As FOM didn't show revmeter graphic, it's still hard to predict.

Track layout aside, I'm not a fan of drivers, particularly Vettel, changing helmet designs all the time and usually they are crap, imho, but this time Vettel is using one hell of a helmet with that wooden colours on it. Simply badass! 8) A shame it will only be used in Texas as it seems to be a theme of USA's South

As Gaara noted, this will be Vettel's 54th helmet change in 100 race weekends.

"BYOB"

So a good idea if you make the podium then, save spraying the fellow drivers and take the bottle and spray...

Actually I won't finish that sentence...

no we didn't. But I don't see it should pose a problem for Brazil. It's not like if we put the race in December that it will be a lot colder, quite on the contrary.

yes Tobias, Brazil is in Southern hemisphere, so unlike Europe, North America/Africa, Asia....., it's approaching summer as in Australia. Temperatures will only get higher from now on.

Speaking of these matters, FOM presented a graphic of 12ºC as air temp in Austin. I thought it would be warmer there even approaching winter in Northern hemisphere

Isn't NY's cancelled due to Sandy? They could replace the Empire State bit with this thing and do the marathon in Austin :p

This circuit is slightly better than I expected, but I think some parts have been ruined for the sake of being modern.

Turn 1 gets wider before the apex. I've no idea why, as the circuit is already a million km wide. It's the same as India really, I don't get why they're doing it. The esses is a bit slower than what they said, but that's expected. The stadium sections are a pointless mess of random kinks with corners where you hit the apex, rather than travel round it. The off camber at the second last turn is a nice touch as its proving challenging. But the challenge is ruined by the vast expanse of tarmac which they use to recover it when it goes wrong. I understand why they use tarmac, but that turned a challenging corner into an easy one because if you get it wrong it doesn't matter.

Drivers have been told that they will not be penalised for going all 4 wheels off the exit of corners here. Wait, really? After what happened at Hockenheim that's just fucking dandy now? We've got MORE tarmac run off and that's been declared ok?

So many minor issues add up to a lot. And it isn't hard to solve these.

After FP1, loved to see them sliding all over at the start. It will be a plus factor the surfacing rubbering up maybe trough Qual and Race.

The flow of the track is compromised in the middle of the first section already. And the last corner of that section isn't so bad, nice elevation change to make it tricky. Would love to tackle that on iRacing.

The fast corner after the stadium dont end in a frustrating way. The next corner is awesome. But the start of the fast corner, the American version of that Turkey one, still makes me sad that there's such a short straight before.
