According to Autosport, Alonso's Honda deployment failed due to him taking Pouhon flat...lol

There seems like there is some concern about the way the rear tyres are deforming with standing waves across the surface, They don't know whats causing it or how to prevent it.

It's apparently not uncommon to see these standing waves in the sidewall but they have never seen it on the tread or as severe as was seen on some of the shots today.

Seems like it was this which caused some damage to Stroll's rear wing that prevented him doing a 2nd run in Q1.

RIP Ferrari then

Also RIP race if it gets too bad....

I guess not for the first time many teams will be praying for rain so the tyres aren't stressed as much

Quote:
So when there is a lift of the throttle, for example, the system takes this into account and works out it must have gone through a corner.

When Alonso took Pouhon flat out – rather than lifting as he had done previously over the weekend – Honda's system did not realise he had already gone through the corner.

Thinking Alonso was still on the run from the Liege downhill corner, rather than on the straight between Turn 11/12, it did not deploy any more energy.

Honda F1 engine chief Yusuke Hasegawa has confirmed that the issue was related to the control system.

lmao

I'm no expert, but what a weird way to engineer the boost. I'm surprised this problem hasn't showed itself before.
