In a pink car. He and Craig Lowndes are running pink and silver cars this weekend to support the McGrath Foundation, making it 3 cars (Michael "XXXX Angel" Patrizi being the other) to run with McGrath Foundation colors. Pics are here

Is it just me, or does this track look worse than Canberra?? I know I should wait till the event actually starts, but it just looks like there'll be terrible racing all weekend! :yuk:

The track lay out doesn't look the greatest, but the circuit hasn't looked all that bad from shots so far.

Narrowness will be the key, if you can't pass the races will be processional, so hopefully they are a couple of decent passing spots.

I'm just hopeful of an entertaining race, and wondering what type of fumes are getting stored in the Superdome given the V8 paddock is indoors this weekend.

A Lotus doing some laps today. Bloody tight in parts. One section of track is 7m wide (planned 10m but grennie groups didn't want some trees chopped down).

You would think that it would be better having the longer distance that the drivers would be less inclined to make less daredevil moves, but given the way the drivers drive at Bathurst and Surfers I'm predicting a hell of a lot of carnage, and if you have someone do something stupid on a start/restart a possible red flag.

Race 25 Podium:

Tander
Winterbottom
Bright

Whincup takes the title again

Really enjoyable race with lots of safety cars, passing, wall banging, damage, controversy.

Not a bad event so far. Decent crowds which is good to see. Grats to Whincup!

Loved this weekend. If only there was a closer championship battle during it. The round turned everything around. Amazing to see that only 10 cars were on the lead lap and only 6 others finishing I think. While there were a tonne of retirements, the event didn't feel like a cheap crashfest for entertainment. There was actually good racing. Looking forward to it again.

was brilliant but why do I just know they will make changes to reduce the amount of action, particularily at turn 8?

The track is the same for everyone and those skilled enough to keep it off the walls will win. Whats wrong with that?

Two fantastic races... The layout looked really bland on paper, but turned out to be really fantastic all things considered. Like the commentators said, absolutely max commitment all the way around - if you don't, you're in the tyres. Lots of contact but the racing itself was very clean, very fair and very exciting (three wide at turn 5 - 8O ).

Love to see the same come back next year, really brings out the best in the drivers.

They wont change turn 8, theres no other way that corner could be reconfigured. Plus if the powers that be at V8 supercars have half a brain they ll leave that corner as it is.

Thats what concerns me.
There was some discussion that the reason turn 8 was troublesome was due to the track breaking up, which undoubtedly they will fix.

I'm surprised that no-one crashed in Turn 5 which is far more risky.

The Herald Sun Melbourne have a story today saying that small teams are pushing to ban the top teams putting their best 2 drivers together for the enduros.

If they're successful, it means no more Whincup/Lowndes, Tander/W Davison pairings.

The Kelly Brothers spoke out today saying how bad it would be.

The lower ranked independent teams want the rule because they can't afford to have a top 2nd driver.

Hopefully that last line isn't the reason. As the bidding for the top endurance co-drivers will probably now hot up, meaning the co-drivers are further out of reach for the cheap teams.

Looks like it is going ahead. A very bad decision IMO.
Non-regulars now have too much influence on the championship. It could also dull Bathurst down, as the non-regulars pretty much will be under instruction not to take any risks, and if you do you'll never drive for us again.

Also reduces the number of internationals that teams will take the punt on as they take time to come to grips with the track and car. Roland Dane hired the internationals as they were cheaper than the better co-drivers here. So essentially in this time of cost containment, the cost of employing co-drivers will go up.
