Local radio reporting that Whincup has "one hand on the trophy." Not exactly sure what that means.

He has a 160-something point lead over Davison now, so realistically, it's his to lose now.

Today's race sucked. The only thing interesting about it was David Reynolds' run, but the poor kid cut a left front (which was a soft that had done the entire race to that point) with about 5 to go while running 2nd and ended any interest I had in that race. Oh well, onto tomorrow.

Massive hit for Leanne Tander on the front straight. Hit the medical centre wall at a bad angle.

And now a pileup on the restart, absolute farce of an 'enduro'. Field is down to 9 cars now i think.

What a mess. T. Kelly spun at turn 7, t-boned by Holdsworth. Holdsworth drove off leaving a tonne of fluid all over the road. Will Davison comes around, after the SC has been called, to go into the pits only to go flying into the pit entry wall from the fluid.

Quite a boring race again, only slightly interesting at the end with the sprint tyres going off and the control tyred cars coming back through the field. Barring a complete disaster in Sydney, Whincup is pretty safe to take the title.

EDIT: If he finished 28th or better in Race 1 in Sydney, he will wrap up the title.

And the guy who spun Todd, Jason Bargwanna, was docked 100 championship points for it. Must've been on some sort of probation after his Phillip Island antics. As for Kelly, his car's probably going to be a write-off.

Why can't they run a sprint type tyre in all races - having a tyre that is a couple of seconds worse at the end than at the start sure spices things up. I know that effect was exaggerated by the presence of the control tyre but it would reward those who can preserve their tyres.

BTW did anyone see John Bowes suggestions for the car of the future in the Australian Muscle Car magazine? I should post it up when I get home as there is some interesting points that I doubt will be implemented (aka John cares about the entertainment value of the racing too).

Was watching the Canberra 400 which had a Race 2 reverse grid and it was biff and barge all the way and it was funny to see no-names up the front like Dugal McDougal.

Sydney 500 is going to be a superb event and a fitting place to end the year.

Not sure how fitting or superb it will be racing wise, the track looks like it'll be about as wide as Canberra was...and all this with Eastern Creek 10mins down the road.

With the championship practically decided, one assumes all the attention politically will be on the event. With $30million being invested into the race by the NSW govt, using money that would be better spent on other things our struggling state sorely needs, the event needs to succeed.... a record crowd is assured though (VESA will tell us this ;) )

Do it BTCC style, with a random inversion of between 10 and 18 cars.

Intresting circuit that should make for an intresting finale. Might be a little difficult for passing but we'll have to wait till the races start.

Should be an interesting round. Jason Bright suggests it will be harder on the brakes than Surfers. Teams are ready do brake/brake pad changes if needed.

The tightness of the circuit should be a recipe for carnage with all bar Whincup going into the round with nothing to lose.

Jamie Whincup needs a finish of 28th or better in either race to wrap up the championship. Will Davison needs to win both races and essentially have Whincup DNF/finish last in both races to take out the championship.

The points battle to watch for the weekend looks like being Will Davison and Tander with 128 points between the two and 250 on offer.

The Top 10 in Championship points as they stand are -
Whincup 3175, W Davison 2894, Tander 2766, Lowndes 2544, Johnson 2177, Winterbottom 2147, R Kelly 2078, Courtney 1988, Holdsworth 1886, Ingall 1871.

The Teams Championship is a far closer battle with 1 point seperating the Top 2 teams going into the final round -
888 5351, HRT 5350, DJR 4075, FPR 3687, GRM 3630, JDR 3461, SBR 3246, BJR 3039, WAL 3014, PMM 2882, TAS 2655, PCR 2479, KRT 1838, BRI 1478, RNR 1124, FFF 618.
