That's fucking awful to hear. Hope he has a speedy recovery and he can return to a racetrack sooner rather than later.

They said on Sunrise this morning that they found it in his stomach :(

Wherever it is, hopefully he can recover quickly and get behind the wheel :)

I don't believe it is a case of recovering quickly (he may not do that, it might be as much as a year or two to recover.) Best not to rush it. Probably best to make sure he recovers well, and is fully fit to drive if he does again.

Let's just hope he pulls through and manages to fully recover. Let's hope it isn't too serious.

Terrible news. Hope is just a tumor that can be easily removed and hasn't spread.

Jason Richards is now recovering in a private Melbourne hospital after undergoing surgery to remove the tumour in his abdomen.

Three specialist surgeons, led by Associate Professor Damien Bolton (a Urologist), removed the whole tumour in a procedure that lasted several hours last night.

Richards, the driver of the #8 Team BOC Commodore VE, will be kept in an induced coma for this first part of his recovery. He will then have a minor procedure on Wednesday before being woken up.

Tests are being carried out to establish what type of tumour it is and results of those tests are not expected until next week.

A team release today said that more information will be released when available.

The family has requested for all messages of support be sent to the team (4/838 Hope Court, Albury, NSW, 2640) or via the Jason Richards Fan Page on Facebook. CLICK HERE to send your thoughts to Jason.

V8 Supercars commentator Aaron Noonan wrote a touching personal tribute to Richards in his exclusive Speedcafe.com.au column. CLICK HERE to view Noonan’s column.

Hopefully the pathology results aren't as bad as expected and he recovers quickly :)

A statement from Brad Jones Racing has confirmed that Jason Richards has adrenal gland carcinoma and will undergo chemotherapy in the coming weeks.

Adrenal gland cancer (Adrenocorticol carcinomas) is a rare tumor afflicting only one or two persons per one million population.

The aggressive cancer usually occurs in adults, with the tumors tending to be found years after they began growing.

Richards underwent two surgeries to remove the tumor and he currently continues to recover well. The Kiwi V8 star is expected to leave hospital by the end of the week.

In a message from his team, the Richards’s family thank everyone for their messages of support and for respecting the family’s need for privacy at this time.

Fans can leave messages of support via the team (4/838 Hope Court, Albury, NSW, 2640) or the Jason Richards Fan Page on Facebook.

Team BOC endurance co-driver Andrew Jones will again replace Richards at this weekend’s Sydney Telstra 500.

Doesn't sound good, I've read on Wikipedia that it only has a 5 year survival rate of 20-35%, however it does go up to 50-60% after successful surgery, which seems the case here. Hope he can make a successful recovery.

Things don't sounds so good as they did from what I read a couple of posts up.

At least he's going home.

New Zealand V8 Supercar driver Jason Richards has cancer of the adrenal gland, it has been confirmed today.

Richards, 34, continues to recover well from surgery to remove the tumour from his abdomen last week, and is expected to leave hospital by the end of the week.

Once he has fully recovered from the surgery, the next step will be chemotherapy.

Richards was diagnosed with a tumour in his abdomen last month and stood down from the final two races of the V8 Supercar season. His seat in the Team BOC car for last week's round at Sandown was taken by endurance co-driver Andrew Jones, who will also fill in for the season finale in Sydney next month.
