And who knows, maybe we could get more than 3-3.5 hour telecasts for normal rounds. Win-win, I say.

That would be ok provided that the telecast actually showed some more racing, most of the telecasts have WAY too much waffle. It takes them an hour and half on a Saturday to get through a 20min qualifying session and a Top 10 run-off..... Raceday Xtra is ok for the supports, but it needs to be integrated into the coverage, like 7 did in the 80s, segregated from it.

I definately hear you on that. If extra hours get added just for White and co. to waffle on then it's not worth it, but if it's used to show more supports, then I'm all for it.

Change Hamilton to Canberra, and you'll find the exact same comments being made back in the early 00's.

I don't think Adelaide made any money for many years, but the Government stayed with it.

Right off the bat, THE worst post I've ever read...

Literally every single argument in that post is flawed and incorrect

I guess these people simply have no idea of the scale that the series is heading towards, and lets face it, none of you would have known that Hamilton even existed before the race right? I can't really write much but would be nice if some of you let those narrow minded twats know that the race has put Hamilton on the map.

Exactly. Either that, or make it a short sprint race on the Saturday, say 1/5th the distance race on Sunday, to satisfy the race goers who can only make the track on Saturday. Maybe a qualifying race to decide the positions for the Sunday feature race.

You wouldn't even need to have a race in my opinion. I went on the Saturday of the Oran Park ATCC every year from 1988-1997 specifically because it was only qualifying. You'd see the press conference after qualifying (was free entry for the fans, first in best dressed of course), then the drivers would hang round afterwards chatting, doing autographs etc...

The Saturday races these days are more about TV, Ch7 has nothing else on for Saturday arvo's, hence why they have been such a priority since the new TV deal started in 2007.

Alex Davison's IRWIN Ford

Add a few logos (specifically a big Lucky 7 logo on the quarter panels), and it wouldn't be a bad scheme. Obviously being on a show car doesn't help. At least that thing had a rear wing, unlike this show car I saw a month ago:

The Irwin car looks retro. Like the square look of it, nice change from the current angled swooping liveries.

I reckon they look better without the wings!

one of the comments....

Quote:
This event is a disgusting reminder of how many idiots there are in the human race.

These cars burn up fuel and pollute our environment. They're a noisey waste of space. And now we see how much tax-payers money gets burnt up too, on top of the damage these cars do.

Yet you idiots in Hamilton voted it in!!!

The Crime Capital of NZ gets what it deserves.... DuH! All those petrol-heads who attended this stupid race should be made to pay this money back to the tax payers, now!

And ban this race for ever - on enviromental impact grounds!

Unfortunately hosting a large motor racing event is never financially advantageous and many would argue that the increased exposure will in no way create a ROI down the line.

But fuck em, racing is awesome.

And not only that, it's a HD only channel, which screws people who have SD set top boxes and can't afford a HD compatible tv.
