I was thinking of it as a more Euro attitude - "ZOMG Le Mans is amazing, I watch it every year...but actually I don't get endurance racing and find it boring other than Le Mans and never bother watching it"

I don't watch much other than Le Mans although I do enjoy it. I just keep forgetting, or I can't be bothered if it's just on a stream (and I never get the TV in my house)

Faessler has put the #50 Audi back into P4 overall, passing the #23 BMS Italia Porsche.

Bruni has also taken the #2 back onto the overall podium, now sitting third, just 32 seconds adrift of the lead BMW (though he's also done one less stop).

Holzer passes Adorf for the lead on track as the rain continues - times still around 2:50. Interestingly, the #79 BMW has done 7 stops, whereas the #13 of Holzer has only done 4... Holzer should be stopping soon-ish.

I lied! Holzer had the lead at the second sector split, and then pitted before it could register on the timing screens. Dirk Adorf continues to lead.

#13's dropped for some reason (EDIT: I guess as they're all on the lead lap, that's from the stop)

#50 has passed #2 for 2nd overall

Bit of a disaster, the #13 Prospeed Porsche that had been running 5th overall (and led briefly earlier), had a clash with the #64 GT3 Aston Martin and crawled back to the pits, falling off the lead lap in the process. Richard Westbrook onboard at the time.

The #50 Phoenix Audi has gone to the lead now for the first time this race, claiming it from the BMW on a pitstop rotation. The #78 BMW that's been troubled is also reporting air conditioner issues, as well as a gearbox sensor problem. They've already changed the ECU once on suspicion of water having got in the box, but that car appears stationary in the pits now once again.

Meanwhile the track appears to be drying out again as the times have dropped back towards the 2:30 mark.

Safety car deployed for Emil Assentato who has taken his #67 United Autosport Audi off at Rivage. Some reports saying he's made it all the way to the tyre wall, others say he's just stuck in the gravel.

Great race to see, especially with the incredible rain showers. Too bad their fancy live timing fucks up almost all the time...

Anyway, aren't you at the race? Surely you have no right to whinge :p

Safety car!

Disaster for the #2 and the #50 as they've made contact battling for position at Stavelot! No word on damage but they've summoned the safety car and neither car has shown signs of making it back to the pits yet. They were battling for second at the time! Van de Poele was in the #2 while Kumpen was in the #50 Audi.

EDIT: I lied. Not battling for position, but both were in the top 5. The #2 was second, I believe.

Both cars are now immobilized at the crash scene. The #2 is a confirmed retirement. Bert Longin reports that Kumpen first hit a Porsche, and then collided with the #2 Ferrari. I suspect the #50 will be confirmed as retired pretty shortly as well.

Big shame, because I think we could have seen an awesome battle between the #2 and the #79 once the sun came up.

Holy crap, Cheever ran out of power steering coming into Eau Rouge. Incredibly lucky not to hit anything

what really gets me is when im in the garage or the pitlane all night with lights and flood lights all over the place i never really see how dark it is out there at the other side of the circuit.. each year i promise myself that im going to wander off into the darkness just to see, and each year i forget!

We've seen plenty of onboards, even replays of actions that don't mean anything. Why hasn't there been an onboard replay of the crash between #50 & #2 in the night. Do'nt tell me they've switched those off when there was no coverage.

judging by the highlights shown this morning there's pretty much no coverage at all from the night, not even onboards
