I hope to hell there's a stream for this. I've always wanted to see this race in full.

Supercheap is one word (just being picky).

I'd expect a similar line up to Phillip Island.
Changes in pairings can be made up until 1730 on the Thursday.

Just two clarifications

- There was also a Bathurst 24hr held in 2002, won by Garth Tander, Steven Richards, Cameron McConville and Nathan Pretty in the Holden Monaro 427.

- The race was originally 500 miles from 1963 until 1972. In 1973 it became 1000km. From 1960-1962 the 500 was held at Phillip Island.

I'll take a punt on that, and suggest 1997, the year Lowndes went overseas after winning the championship here. Wouldn't have a clue if anyone ran without it in the enduros between then and now.

I have results (I should just watch the VHS, just I dont have a player) that the #1 was was driven by Glenn Seton/Skippy Parsons in 1997 that DNF. As Bathurst wasn't part of the championship, and Seton had won the 1997 ATCC before Bathurst, he was given the #1.

My results suggest it was the 1989 race when Dick Johnson/John Bowe won in the #17.

In terms of Bathurst, as BenMac says the last time there was no #1 was the 1989 Tooheys 1000 as mentioned. Prior to that there was no #1 in 88, 84, 83, 82, 81 or 79 (In 1979 Ron Hodgson entered two Torana's numbered #1 and #7 for Bob Morris/Dieter Quester. They ran both in practice & qualifying but withdrew #1 prior to Hardies Heroes, running #7 in that and the race)

In the V8SC/ATCC, as garbo mentioned the last time #1 wasn't used in the whole championship was 1997, when Lowndes was off racing F3000. For the enduro's though the '97 champ Glenn Seton changed to #1 as it was still free...not sure why Lowndes didn't reclaim it when he came back for the enduro's that year though.

The last ATCC/V8SC round prior to Phillip Island not to feature a car #1 was Symmons Plains in 1999, when Lowndes was out injured and Cam McConville replaced him but running #15.

Also, no Aussie Racing Cars which sucks.

It seems like the Aussie Racing Cars won't be on the V8Supercar support bill for the next while, they've appeared on the Shannons Nationals and the Australian Superbike support bill in recent months

One gathers they were no longer willing to pay the high fee's to be on the V8Supercar card

I've got a feeling that that year's champion wore #1 in that year's enduros in the later years of the enduros being a non-championship event. I remember in 1998 Lowndes wore #15 in the Shell Series, won the title, then wore #1 in the enduros. I also recall him wearing #1 for the '96 enduros when he won the title wearing #15. But looking at images from last year's Bathurst book that was sold at Supercheap Auto, Seton wore #30 in the 1993 enduros when he won the title and carried #1 in the 1994 enduros when Skaife won the championship, and Skaife still wore the #1 in the '95 enduros when Bowe won the title (wasn't in said book, I had to go to Natsoft to find that out), so I'm not sure if it was a rule that was implemented in '96 where that year's champion had to wear #1...

I don't think it was really a rule, perhaps a 'gentlemans agreement' or something of the sort

The ARDC (who ran the Bathurst 500/1000 from 1963 until the split in 1997) had generally allowed the #1 to be fair game until the mid-70s, creating some interesting results;

(prior to 1973, the ATCC was run to different regulations than Bathurst was, so there was no crossover with many entrants or therefore car numbers)

1973 - Brock/Chivas wore #1, in deference to Brock's previous years Bathurst win as Moffat won the '73 ATCC
1974 - Brock/Sampson wore #1 again, in deference to Brock's 1974 ATCC win, as Moffat won the '73 Bathurst 1000
1975 - John Goss/Kevin Bartlett wore #1, in deference to their '74 Bathurst win
*1976 - Colin Bond/John Harvey wore #1, just as they had done throughout the ATCC that year, as Bond won the '75 ATCC
*1977 - Moffat/Ickx wore #1, as Moffat had done all year as he had won the 1976 ATCC
1978 - Moffat/Ickx wore #1, just as Moffat had done all year in the ATCC, even though Peter Brock won the 1978 championship

*In 1976 & 1977, the ATCC included some of the enduro's (not Bathurst though), so the ATCC didn't finish until the Phillip Island 500km in November)

.... there were anomalies though like in 1979 when Ron Hodgson entered two cars, #1 and also #7, for Bob Morris/Dieter Quester at Bathurst, Morris being the 1979 ATCC winner... they qualified both cars (Quester quicker from memory, Morris' car missed Hardies Heroes) but withdrew the slowest prior to Hardies Heroes, and race #7... This was helped obviously by the fact Brock kept racing #05 as usual in 1979 and not #1

In 1980 the HDT, being reigning Bathurst 1000 winners, gave approval to the ARDC to give the #1 to Allan Moffat for his late-in-the-day entry to the 1980 Bathurst 1000.

In 1985 Jim Richards used #62 in the ATCC, but for Sandown and Bathurst took on the #1 as he won the championship & also reigning champ Johnson had stuck with #17..... Richards lost the 1986 ATCC but held the #1 for that years enduro's

In 1987 there was no #1 in the ATCC, Jim Richards won the series and the #1 was on his car for the Sandown 500.... however for Bathurst the #1 was alotted to the ProTeam Maserati from the WTCC for Armin Hahne/Bruno Giacomelli/Kevin Bartlett

In 1990 there was no #1 in the ATCC (as Johnson kept #17), so Jim Richards/Mark Skaife ran #1 at Bathurst, Richards had won the championship and the number was free, so presumebly they just 'took' it like in 1985.

In 1996 John Bowe used #1 in the ATCC, but he and Johnson were always going to run #17 at Bathurst, so the number became free for the enduro's, and naturally HRT took it on as Lowndes was the 1996 champ.

In 1997 and 1998 it seemed like that became the done thing, but i think more as a 'gentlemans agreement' rather than a rule.

Some new liveries for Bathurst

Wilson Security Racing have partnered up with the McGrath Foundation to promote breast cancer awareness. New designs for the cars, helmets and race suits will heavily feature the McGrath Foundation’s logo and signature pink in recognition of the work the Foundation carries out to support women diagnosed with breast cancer and their families.

This image posted by Simon Wills on Ten-Tenths/V8 Central isn't the final livery but close to what will be unveiled later today.
Image

GRM amazingly have a change in paint scheme. Aside from minor modifications each season GRM has had only 2 different liveries since the inception of the V8 Supercar formula. The change is to promote Valvoline's radiator additive brand Zerex (and maybe other Valvoline brands for the rest of the year). At least one of the cars will retain the livery post-Bathurst. Holdsworth suggests the livery looks better in real life than on paper.

The Jack Perkins (and Dale Wood) Commodore will sport Bet 24 7 sponsorship for the remaining of the season, and will have a number change at Bathurst (#11 to #247). Bet 24 7 is a newly launched online betting agency.

And in relation to that, when was the last time there was no #11 at Bathurst?

The #11 car from 1988, the Gulson BMW 635csi, didn't qualify for the race due to being outside the FISA-mandated qualifying time....

...prior to that, your going back to the early 70s (if at all) to find a race with no #11

That GRM livery is astonishingly poor. Cheap, nasty and down right boring. Maybe I'm just annoyed at how they rendered out the concept.

Still, I don't see much potential. Surprised they didn't go for the racing livery design cliche of flames and a characterature of some youth urinating on a Ford badge while they were at it.

The red to blue without any sort of transition is horrific. It has never worked before... Who the hell thought that was a good idea?

I seriously hope to god the real car looks a whole lot better than the render posted, because that's disgusting.

The Wilson Security/McGrath Foundation car is tast though.
