In this example a car in front upset the car behind, like the Toyota GT-One upset the Mercedes at LeMans when it flipped (in 1 case at least).

Exacerbated it for sure, but the BM still went high and there's countless pictures of other cars doing the same. Besides, to think it is more likely with cars following behind further supports measures to make changes somewhere.

Don't they usually put a tyre chicane in front of a bump like this for GT races at the slovakiaring? Not an elegant solution but at least it doesn't require banning classes from racing at the ring.

edit: yep, here is that bump without a chicane

Until they lowered it, yes they did.

I would hazard a guess that they'll have something in place before the next race and those classes will be allowed.

They could do that, but IMO the run up to Flugplatz is too tight to properly put a chicane there, especially for such a big field.

I fear flattening it will be the eventual solution...

Hopefully a reasonable solution can be found before the 24. Otherwise, that race will be heavily compromised. But what can be done in 1 and a half months?

What are they? Different classes of cars or makes of a car?

Classes (mainly the GT3's and cars like the Glickenhaus), here's the breakdown of what cars are in what class:

Quote:
SP7 – includes Porsche Cup class cars
SP8 – larger engined none FIA GT homologated cars – includes Lexus LFA
SP9 – includes FIA GT3 class cars
SP10 – includes FIA GT4 class cars
SPX – other non-homologated GT cars – includes Glickenhaus SCG 003

Above list and press release: http://www.dailysportscar.com/2015/03/2 ... unced.html

It is a temporary ban, but with the race so close the investigation and decisions better be quick if they plan to allow them again at the N24.

Do other cars do this elsewhere too or just the Glickenhaus?

"This was during practice which is what practice is for. This was our first NS session ever with SCG 003C.. We were running slowly to see what we needed to do. We specifically told our drivers to approach the jumps slowly which they did. Once we saw what we needed to do we adjusted aero and car was very good and stable. We raced today without any issues and were running 6th when we were black flagged for being too loud."

Don't know if this will work or not, but what about removing the wing (or cutting it way down) on the back of the cars? I understand it's the fronts getting light over the hills, but with the big wing pushing the rear downward when the front gets light the rear is only making the situation worse.

Similar to top fuel dragster blowovers. Front end comes up and when the nose wings lose their effectiveness the big rear wing keeps pushing down until the front and rear swap ends.

That's one of the reasons I was worried about the crash: losing the top classes or having the track altered. But I just got "don't be a pussy" remarks.

SP10 must be a mistake, these are close to standard class and are among the slowest cars. Weird that they don't ban H4 yet.

As always this decision is good for safety, and bad for spectacle. These cars were starting to go too fast, but were more interesting to see than a Swift racing a Polo.

Damn.
Rallying rules might help: if not enough runoff area, no specatators should stay outside the corner, only inside.

Post subject:  Re: VLN 2015

but there is runoff area, tyrewall, barriers and double fence. The car shouldn't be flying, that is all.
