Lowndes/Skaife win again.

Not a single car retired. Can definitely say that's never happened before.

Does anyone remember Bathurst 2000? There were 60 cars or something. The quality of a third of the field was absolutely shit. Half the field failed to finish or something.

Now here we are in 2011, at Phillip Island for the 500 km race. 28 cars start. Not one fails to finish, although Karl Reindler's car ends up 13 laps down. Only two other drivers fails to finish on the lead lap.

The problem back in 2000 was the quality of the cars and of the field. Now it seems, it's the complete opposite.

If it's the 2006 race that you're thinking of, that race did have a DNF (I believe it was one of the Tasman cars that DNF'd.)

And tbh, if we get a repeat of last year, I can't see many non-finishers at Bathurst in a few weeks. There was only one mechanical failure that retired a car last year (Bargwanna), and it would probably take a Gold Coast-esque demo derby for there to be a high attrition rate, and that's not necessarily a good thing.

1999 was worse. I think only 23 of the 55 starters finished that day.

And it's looking likely that Phillip Island and Sandown will swap places on the calender next year, with Sandown to return to its traditional 500km format.

The longest 1000km race at Bathurst was the 1974 Hardie-Ferodo 1000 won by John Goss/Kevin Bartlett which ran for 7hrs54mins

But in terms of the breakaway V8Supercar 1000's which only started in 1997, then yes 2000 was the longest race held.

That was mostly because the development series (Konica) were able to enter the race.

Anyone with the correct racing licence and a car that passed scruiteneering could have entered the 2000 FAI 1000 (the way it should be)

It was only in 2001 that they started demanding entrants have at least contested a certain number of Development Series rounds.

it will be driven by either Cameron Watters (some 16 year old kid) or Andrew Jordan (BTCC dude) with Grant Denyer.

The show is addictive TV purely because it's truly awful. Creating challenges which had nothing to do with racing just so that the girls can win and stay in the competition, ignoring the fact in all the driving challenges they are 10-15 seconds slower than the boys.

Well at least the best two are through to the final, but the show has been so awful it's been brilliant. Given that the show has been so manipulated through out I cannot see how the producers will allow an English guy to win.

lol I just don't understand how they can be comfortable with one of them driving, they will be buried in the wall in their first practice session.

Cameron Waters is more of a risk but Andrew Jordan has been competing in the BTCC since 2008. I reckon Waters will win, not because what I said above but because it seems Rick and Todd seem more impressed with him week after week.

I found it hard to like Dave Cera from the very first episode. He should have been eliminated after his performance in the blindfold challenge. That challenge was supposed to be about team work, yet he used it as an excuse to sabotage another contestant. He may be a quick karter but everything else about him in the competition didn't work.

Waters does look awkward and he is young but he's got that kind of naive character that can be manipulated and moulded. Jordan is already quite a character over here in the BTCC, has a significant backer in Pirtek (which is probably how he got into this competition) and an established career.

Waters just looks awkward on camera, he's too young. I always thought Sera was going to win it, he should of, he's one of the worlds best go karters, finished top 5 in his first ever ARC start (including a podium in a monsoon-style race), just because he wasn't as fit was bullshit.

That challenge where the BMW was broken down was laughable. The fact the girls won it just because they followed the road rules (even though the car was pulled over ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD, AND they were in a closed circuit) was fucking terrible.

Need I have to mention again that they get to share a seat with Grant Denyer (who'll probably do the maximum stint allowed anyway because he'll get his way) who WAS a mediocre at best DVS runner when he used to run. It's not much of a prize at all. They'll get no fame, no endorsements out of it, most probably won't even get a career out of motorsport.
It's an opportunity they would probably not have gotten and it's a foot in the door for them. I don't see how they have nothing to gain from it, if they perform well on their own accord, others will take notice and it may land them a dev series drive as well. Pretty awesome opportunity imo.

Its only an opportunity if you get to drive the V8Supercar at some point, mucking around driving Megane's inbetween witches blind-folded isn't showing anybody anything

What the show should have done is put the Renault's to better use and enter two or three of them in each round of the Australian Manufacturers Championship and rotate the drivers throughout the year as they removed people from the competition.

That way the Proddies get more entries, the prospective drivers get to race, Renault gets some competitive advertising (maybe even a title), and a season of racing could culminate in a drive at the most important event in Australia.
