DEMONSTRATIONS Classic Motorcycles:
CLASSIC MOTORCYCLE DEMONSTRATIONS – ANOTHER FIRST FOR THE CLIPSAL 500 ADELAIDE The unique sight and sounds of classic Manx and International Nortons, Matchless G50s and AJS 7R, Velocettes, Triumph Twins, Vincent Black Lightning, Triumph/BSA and Norton Domiracers are to be a feature of the 2009 Clipsal 500 Adelaide to be held from March 19-22. The Classic Race Bike spirited demonstrations, to be held on each day of the event, is being organised by the Historic Motorcycle Racing Register of S.A. Inc. The organising Club is dedicated to the restoration, preservation and use of classic motorcycles of British, European, Japanese and American manufacture up to 1980. The majority of the motor cycles that will be present at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide will be of British manufacture produced up to 1962 and are in the Period 2 and 3 categories, reflecting the ‘golden era of motorcycle racing’. The Manx Norton is probably the most famous of British racing bikes and traces its origins to the late 1920’s when the early 0HC International Nortons were developed. The marque improved with racing development and was virtually unbeatable in the early 30’s right through until the early 1950’s, when multi-cylinder bikes such as the Gilera 4 and the MV Augustas took over. Other bikes of the era were the KTT Velocettes that won many races in the 20’s and 30’s and the late 40’s mostly in the 350cc classes. The 350cc OHC AJS7R (boy racer) was produced in the late 40’s and 50’s and was a popular choice of many riders, and in 1958 an enlarged version which became the Matchless G50 of 500cc was also very successful. Also of the era, the BSA Gold Star of 350cc and 500cc were used for racing and clubman events with many iron-engined BSAs used extensively in the 50’s and 60’s and are still seen in classic racing. Triumph produced mainly road bikes but the 500cc Grand Prix Racer of 1947-1948 was built in small numbers. The Triumph T100 of 500cc and T110 of 650ccs were twin cylinder bikes and were used for racing after modification. They responded to tuning and were often fitted to Norton frames.
Murray Walker's Extreme Machines
MURRAY WALKER’S EXTREME MACHINES PRESENTS AUSTRALIA’S BIGGEST EXOTIC CAR SHOW AT THE 2009 CLIPSAL 500 ADELAIDE Murray Walker’s Extreme Machines exotic car show returns to the Clipsal 500 Adelaide after its spectacular introduction at this year’s event. The show, where the world’s most expensive and exotic super road cars are not only on exhibit, but are driven on the circuit each day in high speed displays, was another world first for the Adelaide event. In 2009 the line-up of Supercars valued at millions of dollars is already highly impressive featuring the following with more to come: • Koenigsegg CCX • Pagani Zonda • Ferrari F50 • Ferrari 430 • Porsche GT • Maserati GTS • Aston Martin DB9 • Aston Martin Vantage • Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder ‘We have been told that Murray Walker’s Extreme Machines is the only concept in the world where people can not only see these cars close-up, but also watch and hear them perform at speed’, Clipsal 500 Adelaide Chief Executive Jason Allen says. International motoring icon Murray Walker, after whom the display is named, will be present at the special display area on circuit at various times to meet members of the public. ‘We have a special facility to house this collection of cars and the great thing is that it is open to all Clipsal 500 Adelaide patrons, whether they be general admission, grandstand, or corporate ticket holders, Jason Allen adds. Mr. Allen said that for the 2008 event a number of people flew from interstate just to see the Murray Walker’s Extreme Machines collection. The Murray Walker’s Extreme Machines collection will perform on the circuit every day of the 2009 event, while the exhibit will be open to patrons when the vehicles are not on track.
