woot for the Fujitsu series being nothing more than a main game reject dumping ground!

Despite what was promoted as the original intentions for the series, i think the current situation was inevitable, The teams had to do something to recoup money on their old cars....

It really is hurting the main reason for the series in the first place. It's called the development series for a reason, the development of upcoming drivers and team personal, not main game rejects who have a tonne more experience and backing and therefore annihilate everyone.

Allowing in the new VE is going to hurt big time as well, because now the main Holden teams with all the cash will have a monumental car advantage over everyone else, that on top of more experienced drivers = a walk in the park for them next season and not only that, they take away almost all the tv time while those in the series for its proper purpose get sweet bugger all.

It's hard enough to find sponsors as it is, but the way they have transformed the series makes it near impossible for the majority of the teams, and as a result most rely solely on the money the pay drivers bring in for each round and this also means that it becomes near impossible to properly train young talent because unless they have the ridiculous sum required for a race weekend, they are out of a seat.

So no longer is it a development series, but more an exhibition event for kids with lots of money to have the once in a lifetime opportunity to drive a car really fast!!

Doesn't help with how over saturated the main game is either, or the fact we have complete retards like Morris and Marshall who are in there stealing rides because they own the bloody things.

Skaife is retiring. He's acheived a lot and won Bathurst 5 times and won many championships. He's made the right choice but he will still race at Bathurst in the future.

But that happens everywhere...look at Yoong at Minardi, and Sato/Nakajima from their Honda/Toyota connections.

Not that I think Marshall should be around, he is no good, he showed that when Power took over his TA seat.
Don't know why Bright doesn't sign up Steve Owen.

A shame, he's only 41. I think a fresh start was what was required.....

I'd assume the #26 seat requires a cheque from the prospective driver

And Dean Canto for that matter.

Canto has had and was not good enough in my opinion. Holdsworth blew him away last year.

V8s aren't going to be the same without Skaifey.

A 2-time DVS champion isn't good enough for the main game? Surely you must be joking.

Oh, I guess compared to Kayne Scott etc.

Let's look at the Fujitsu Series Champions
Dean Canto, Simon Wills, Paul Dumbrell, Mark Winterbottom, Andrew Jones, Dean Canto, Adam Macrow, Tony D'Alberto.

Every driver aside from Macrow has had a full-time drive, but only Winterbottom has achieved more than modest results.

Canto has had his chance twice, but didn't fully take it, the first due to health issues, the second due to being outperformed and then dumped for someone who bought more money to the team.

The two glaring omissions currently are Adam Macrow and Steve Owen. Owen performed outstandingly for Rod Nash Racing last year, and losing the Autobarn money cost him his seat. The team has gone backwards this year with D'Alberto behind the wheel.

Macrow had a couple of chances early last year, performing reasonably well in a team full of incompetence (TKR) in the first two rounds whilst Radisich was recovering, but hasn't had any decent opportunities, apart from partnering Bright in the enduros for the past two years.

If Steve Johnson doesn't want to be 2nd behind James Courtney it could well open up a seat for Owen at DJR. Macrow's best option would be the 2nd Britek barge, but unfortunately his cheque book isn't probably large enough for the seat.

I agree, he has been brilliant this year when he has done some commentating. I even found myself not hating him so much which is quite an achievement.
WOLFMOTHER A HOWLING SUCCESS FOR CLIPSAL 500

Deputy Premier Kevin Foley today announced Grammy and ARIA Award-winning band Wolfmother would headline an all-star cast at the Clipsal 500’s on-circuit concert series, making it the largest ever festival of music staged at an Australian motor race meeting.

Mr Foley says Wolfmother, along with support band The Getaway Plan, will perform the final on-circuit concert on Sunday, March 22.

It’s the first scheduled concert for Wolfmother’s newly formed line-up with front man Andrew Stockdale following the August 2008 split of the original line-up.

“What a fantastic way to conclude what will be a truly magnificent four-day racing and music carnival,” Mr Foley says.

“However, Wolfmother is just one of many outstanding artists performing for the Jim Beam TrackSounds On-Circuit Concert Series over the Clipsal 500 weekend.”

2008 ARIA award winners The Living End will headline Thursday night’s concert, while Pete Murray is the frontline artist for Friday night.

2008 Australian of the Year Lee Kernaghan will perform on the Saturday night.

“Such an incredible line-up of artists is the perfect compliment to what is arguably the best motor sport carnival in the world,” Mr Foley says.

“I’m expecting the 2009 Clipsal 500 to be a brilliant event both on and off the track.”

2009 Jim Beam TrackSounds On-Circuit Concert Series:

Thursday, 19 March – The Living End, Gyroscope, The Butterfly Effect and The Potbelleez, presented by Nova 91.9.

Friday, 20 March – Nova 91.9 presents Pete Murray, Faker and Operator Please.

Saturday, 21 March – Lee Kernaghan, Beccy Cole and The McClymonts, presented by FIVEaa.

Sunday, 22 March – Wolfmother and The Getaway Plan, presented by Mix 102.3.
DEMONSTRATIONS
Classic Motorcycles:
CLASSIC MOTORCYCLE DEMONSTRATIONS – ANOTHER FIRST FOR THE CLIPSAL 500 ADELAIDE

The unique sight and sounds of classic Manx and International Nortons, Matchless G50s and AJS 7R, Velocettes, Triumph Twins, Vincent Black Lightning, Triumph/BSA and Norton Domiracers are to be a feature of the 2009 Clipsal 500 Adelaide to be held from March 19-22.

The Classic Race Bike spirited demonstrations, to be held on each day of the event, is being organised by the Historic Motorcycle Racing Register of S.A. Inc.

The organising Club is dedicated to the restoration, preservation and use of classic motorcycles of British, European, Japanese and American manufacture up to 1980.

The majority of the motor cycles that will be present at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide will be of British manufacture produced up to 1962 and are in the Period 2 and 3 categories, reflecting the ‘golden era of motorcycle racing’.

The Manx Norton is probably the most famous of British racing bikes and traces its origins to the late 1920’s when the early 0HC International Nortons were developed. The marque improved with racing development and was virtually unbeatable in the early 30’s right through until the early 1950’s, when multi-cylinder bikes such as the Gilera 4 and the MV Augustas took over.

Other bikes of the era were the KTT Velocettes that won many races in the 20’s and 30’s and the late 40’s mostly in the 350cc classes.

The 350cc OHC AJS7R (boy racer) was produced in the late 40’s and 50’s and was a popular choice of many riders, and in 1958 an enlarged version which became the Matchless G50 of 500cc was also very successful.

Also of the era, the BSA Gold Star of 350cc and 500cc were used for racing and clubman events with many iron-engined BSAs used extensively in the 50’s and 60’s and are still seen in classic racing.

Triumph produced mainly road bikes but the 500cc Grand Prix Racer of 1947-1948 was built in small numbers. The Triumph T100 of 500cc and T110 of 650ccs were twin cylinder bikes and were used for racing after modification. They responded to tuning and were often fitted to Norton frames.
Murray Walker's Extreme Machines
MURRAY WALKER’S EXTREME MACHINES PRESENTS AUSTRALIA’S BIGGEST EXOTIC CAR SHOW AT THE 2009 CLIPSAL 500 ADELAIDE

Murray Walker’s Extreme Machines exotic car show returns to the Clipsal 500 Adelaide after its spectacular introduction at this year’s event.

The show, where the world’s most expensive and exotic super road cars are not only on exhibit, but are driven on the circuit each day in high speed displays, was another world first for the Adelaide event.

In 2009 the line-up of Supercars valued at millions of dollars is already highly impressive featuring the following with more to come:

• Koenigsegg CCX
• Pagani Zonda
• Ferrari F50
• Ferrari 430
• Porsche GT
• Maserati GTS
• Aston Martin DB9
• Aston Martin Vantage
• Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder

‘We have been told that Murray Walker’s Extreme Machines is the only concept in the world where people can not only see these cars close-up, but also watch and hear them perform at speed’, Clipsal 500 Adelaide Chief Executive Jason Allen says.

International motoring icon Murray Walker, after whom the display is named, will be present at the special display area on circuit at various times to meet members of the
public.

‘We have a special facility to house this collection of cars and the great thing is that it is open to all Clipsal 500 Adelaide patrons, whether they be general admission,
grandstand, or corporate ticket holders, Jason Allen adds.

Mr. Allen said that for the 2008 event a number of people flew from interstate just to see the Murray Walker’s Extreme Machines collection.

The Murray Walker’s Extreme Machines collection will perform on the circuit every day of the 2009 event, while the exhibit will be open to patrons when the vehicles are not on track.
I don't care about anything other than the Clipsal racing on the long, old track. If it isn't it will remain the "Crapsal" until the old track is used.

Is there any way to be employed in the people that are involved in putting up and taking down the circuit??? Do you need any special qualifications other than maybe a driver's license??

Melbourne's loosing dough over the F1's, why not bring it back here on a new track extension in Victoria Park as there's enough space for about 1km extension and good pit areas, as the racecourse is now CLOSED and its an eyesore except for a few soccer pitches and piles of dirt.

Is there any way to get you locked up in a mental institution? Some of your ideas are just complete bullshit.

Have they decided this year whether Clipsal is one race or two (it seems to have been a problem for them since the first one)?

Don't think the full track makes a difference, they created this modified version for 1999 to keep other parts of the city unaffected by the race. Doesn't seem to have been a bad decision. The only time the full circuit has been used since the 1995 AGP was in 2000 for the ALMS Sportscar race

Well have never really rated him but hopefully with no hassles involved with running a team he will perform better than he has of late.

He did very well back in the PWR days but has made some interesting career moves. Everytime a team he drives for shows signs of getting up to race winning pace he leaves (ok not this time but FPR, HSV(was PWR at the time wasn't it) etc). Maybe it shows he is a good car sorter?
