Dirty move by Whincup there on the restart, bumped Winterbottom as they were released from the safety car which caused the stack up in the first turn.

Its a pity that drivers of that calibre are being wasted on the Gold Coast, and not brought out a few weeks earlier for Bathurst.....

You kidding? Even though it was a bit of a farce, it was one of the most entertaining weekend of V8s last year.

Certainly not kidding

The Gold Coast race is just a side show, and a poor relation of what was once a great international open-wheel event.

Why are we bringing international drivers over for a street circuit, and banning them from racing at our most famous circuit and in the only motor race that means anything to the Australian general public (drivers racing at the Gold Coast are not allowed to race in any other rounds)??? Bathurst is a world famous event, it has hosted a WTCC round in the past, yet the V8 organisers have rendered it basically a 'locals' only event (unless they sign a 'lesser' international not running the GC600)...

CART was hardly a great international open wheel event. Last time i was there everyone would flock for the v8 races then piss off when CART came on. Ever thought they cant sign big names for Bathurst because it doesnt fit with their schedule?

In the last few years (post-2002) that was probably true, but remember that it wasn't until 1997 that the V8s became a regular part of the event, the event from 1991-1996 was built on CART itself

They can't sign big names for Bathurst because V8Supercar Championship rules dictate that any driver signed to race on the Gold Coast cannot race in any preceeding rounds. When V8Supercars have multi-million dollars of government money to pay the Internationals with (the money that used to pay for Indycars/CART to come out), as opposed to team footing the bill themselves for Bathurst, it doesn't take much to see who is holding the aces when it comes to negotiations.

The Gold Coast 600 hardly fits in with the International calendar. The likes of the WTCC and DTM have clashing rounds, and the Indycar decider the week before renders the championship winner (likely to be either Power or Franchitti) unavailable due to Idycar champion committments.

Mark Skaife is doing the worst job of analysis of yesterday's restart mess. Thankfully Neil Crompton's gotten to the point in the first sentence he could get in between Skaife's dramatics. Jamie Whincup caused that whole deal, no argument.

Have to agree, in between Skaife constantly telling us how "wild" it was, and White constantly telling us how "insane" it was, it was left to Crompton to actually give us some insight....

He deadset drifted for an entire lap chucking it out every corner and as scotty said linking every corner, was amazing. How drivers should celebrate after winning. Not picking up rubber!

Overall good race. There hasn't been a disappointing V8 race this year as i can recall, it's been great.

Not specifically V8Supercars, but Australian motorsport related, Formula 3 will race at Mount Panorama next year

Think its fair to say the 10 will get back the V8 contract after next year.

Do they have the $$$ and/or the interest (given RPM has just been bumped to 10:30pm on a wednesday night and ONE gradually showing less and less sport)??

They couldn't match 7's offer last time either, and the purse strings are tighter under the new news-orientated TEN management..

What are the chances of Leigh Diffey returning to Australia? Him returning + TEN showing V8's again, that alone would make the races better.

I love Leigh Diffey and would miss him immensely on American broadcasts... but yeah, he is an asset to any race coverage.

+1 for Leigh Diffey. I think he and Crompton would make an awesome team.

Although I think you'll find a lot a Aussie V8 viewers don't like Diffey. They feel he's just yelling rather than commentating.
