Both Mortara and Paffett given a 5 place grid penalty suspended for 2 races.

Thanks, and that is as I thought.

So let's hypothesise that Ekstrom was 2kg above the weight limit after the race and that included the 500ml of water poured into his pocket. Surely Audi have a good argument that the water made no difference to the weight limit tests and therefore the DSQ was unwarranted? Or am I being too logical for the DTM?

Reports had him between 6 and 7 kg overweight.

Well then, let's hope Audi's appeal overturns this utterly stupid decision. I get the point of the rule and penalty, but the stewards of the meeting and the governing body have the opportunity to use their discretion when considering and applying a penalty.

They DQ him because someone, who wasn't a member of the team poured some water on the driver's legs. That means by that logic, the driver who finished 2nd could spit the winner in the face and thus making him excluded. Or a bird could show up and shit on them and exclude them both. Sweet.

Great posting :D

So if it rains in Parc Ferme, do they all get DQ and the weekend gets forgotten about?

What if he drank the water? is that also not allowed?

Spoiler:
Image
Is Harrison Ford also ready to pour that big bottle of water over Ekstrom?

Is that one of Gary Paffet's crew holding the camera, filming the incident and getting ready to go to the stewards?

I don't get it...

Surely in Motorsport the cars want to be as light as possible....

Dragging around extra weight is a penalty in itself isn't it?

I get the concept that he was running underweight and the water brought him up to the weight limit...
But he was disqualified for being overweight that...means his car would be slower than those running on the weight limit?? :?

I think the rule is you can't do anything to alter a drivers weight in parc ferme, adding or taking away. Clearly in this case it wouldn't make a difference, but I think its an important principle to enforce.

I wondered whether the person who poured the water in Ekstrom's pockets was actually from Mercedes. ;)

I get the logic and purpose of the rule, but the execution this time round seems incredibly dumb. What does 500ml of water weigh anyhow?

I would say 500 grams.

And thinking about it, you don't know what else they might have have placed in that water bottle. Looks like he's pouring just water in his pocket but who's to say a few small heavy weights hadn't been slipped into the waterbottle before hand?

Disappointed that nobody has referred to this 'scandal' as "Water-gate".

Would you really try to cheat in such an obvious way in full view of everyone around you? In that case Ekstrom should have just been handed a 5kg weight and put it around his neck.

People will do anything to try and cheat. A teammate crashing and bringing out an SC after the other driver makes a pitstop. Water in the tyres. Turbos on the cars, ala Toyota in WRC.

We are all terribly sorry. I for one feel very ashamed. :(

So anyhow, when is Ekström's win going to get reinstated? Decision can't wait for ever.

Yes but in the examples you've given, there was some form of subtly to attempt to hide the cheating. In this case, there isn't.

Won't happen. It was a clear parc ferme infringement. Ekström getting his win back would be the actual scandal.
