Time for yet another thrilling IRL race...

now the IRL can say they have a sellout after a few debacles, though there will only be 20,000 there on raceday

Penske is a fool for bringing this race back. Aside from the fact the track isn't all that hot, what's the point of running in the motor city when the only motor in the series is from halfway around the world? Just my opinion of course, but I just can't see the logic of racing at either Detroit or MIS unless you have Chevy or Ford involved... And that ain't going to happen... Not even with the new engines.

I will of course watch the race on Sunday since I can't be at the track where my heart is (Oswego Speedway... See avatar.)

Weren't there only about 5-6 cars running at the finish of this one last year?

Don't really care about IRL for this one...

Was this the race last year where pretty much everyone forgot how to keep it off the walls?

Ive only seen the 1999 (CART) race here, and if its anything to go buy, it will be ok.

That's probably not a good thing to go by.

I can't really remember much here from last year. A couple of wrecks and the Franchitti/Dixon smash at the end.

A Reminder of the Indycar Road Cource Qualifying Procedure:
Quote:
The popular “Firestone Fast Six” shootout for starting positions on the first three rows returns for 2008, but instead of single-lap qualifying there will be three knockout rounds to determine who participates in the 10-minute session.

-- Two groups of randomly assigned cars compete for 20 minutes each. The fastest six cars from each group advance to another round of qualifying. The remaining cars will set positions 13 down on the starting grid based on fastest lap time.

-- The 12 advancing cars enter a 15-minute group qualifying session with all previous times voided. Following that session, the fastest six cars will advance to the Firestone Fast Six. The remaining six cars will fill positions 7-12 on the starting grid based on their fastest laps from that session.

-- Once again, all times will be erased and the six finalists will battle for 10 minutes with the PEAK Motor Oil Pole Award as the prize based on lap time. It also sets the remainder of the first three rows.

Surfers is being run as a non-Championship race. Thought everyone knew that by now.
