Pakistan to miss next two rounds

By Steven English Friday, October 31st 2008, 11:14 GMT

Adam KhanTeam Pakistan will miss the next two rounds of the A1GP season while their car is modified to fit driver and seatholder Adam Khan into the cockpit.

Khan found during pre-season testing that he was unable to fit comfortably in the new Powered by Ferrari car and it will have to be altered for Khan to meet the series' safety requirements.

Pakistan had already missed the season opener at Zandvoort and will also sit out the races at Chengdu, China and Sepang, Malaysia this month. The team expect to join the series for the New Zealand round at Taupo at the end of January.

"It's very unfortunate," said Khan. "I tried the car out at Snetterton just before the first round at Zandvoort but I just couldn't drive it safely so we had to miss the opening event.

"A1GP is implementing modifications to alleviate the problems, but we will have to postpone the start of our campaign until the car is ready for us. I'm obviously disappointed but safety has to take priority.

"I will be attending the races in the meantime, gaining as much as I can from being part of the A1GP community and working with the technical team to prepare as much as possible before we start racing again.

Woops

I don't think it was mentioned before, but Urheilukanava will show the feature race at Chengdu live. Nice. Though I'll probably miss it since I'm going to the old home at that weekend.

It's better for Pakistan to sit out the races while they make the car suitable for Kahn then having them stick Nur Ali back in the car :yuk:

Shame for Adam, but as Gaara says, it's better to wait than put someone like Nur Ali in the car.

why the hell is khan so uncomfortable in the car? does he have 3 legs or something like that?
Germany will return to racing action at the Taupo round, 21 cars next race and 23 at the start of 2009, more cars than F1 again

from an article on a1gp.com
Quote:
The other team that will have to wait until A1GP Taupo, New Zealand on 23-25 January 2009 to appear on the track is A1 Team Germany. The 2006/07 champion is undergoing a management restructure with Rolf Beisswanger, who has a vast knowledge of motorsport having worked in it for many years, becoming team principal.

A1 replaces IRL at Surfers

Gold Coast Indy reaches finish line
Georgia Waters | November 11, 2008 - 6:46AM
The Gold Coast Indy 300 has been canned in favour of a new carnival featuring faster cars, Premier Anna Bligh has announced.

The new carnival will be held on the Gold Coast every October and still feature the off-track entertainment and events that lured thousands to Indy every year, she said.

Ms Bligh said the new series would feature the faster A1GP cars instead of Indy cars as well as V8 supercars.

"I am sure the A1GP will be a terrific attraction for both 'revheads' and new fans to the world of motorsport," Ms Bligh said.

IF the series even survives until next year

I do think Surfers have lost out here. The IRL was a more long term solution than A1 (just about, anyway)

My post was based on the slightly optimistic assumption that it will still be going next year :p

IF A1 can get something long term sorted out in the near future, I don't think Surfers have lost out. Obviously that's a massive if.

Oh of course, I'm sure the Ferraris would put on as good a show as the Dallaras, if not better

That stinks. When finally IndyCar get it all together, they decide to not come here anymore.

A1 is OK, but far too mediocre in many instances, a lot too much like an F3 series or something.

Yeah i still see it as just another feeder series. But at least we have an open wheel replacement for indy, just hope that A1 manages to stay afloat.

If the series is still around that's great news.

I think A1 is much better than these standards. Buddy Rice went to A1 and was an epic fail. Let's see how Marco and Danica can do. They can make this point clearer.

Does that mean Power might go back to A1GP for his home round? :P
