Scrappy race. Some good experienced guys in there but the youngsters look a bit rough.

Probably because the 2013 field was so good that there's a little bit of a vacuum this year. A few to watch in there though.

Sorensen's been given a 5 spot grid penalty for causing the crash.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/113422

Sorensen disagrees with the penalty:
Quote:
"I was quite a bit in front," he said. "I was just following the slipstream, so I moved a bit inside.

"There was plenty of space for another car, and as long as I'm in front I'm allowed to choose my line.

"[Jaafar] says that I turned really sharp into him, but I've seen the video and I thought he should have moved with me.

"He just went straight with his steering instead of giving space. Normally if you are the car behind you don't stick to your line like that.

"I don't understand the decision [of the stewards]. They said in the drivers' briefing that as long as you leave enough space it's OK."

Just watched my recording of the race. I'm surprised we don' t see crashes like this flip more often in junior openwheel races with all the weaving these guys do ( also in gp2, autogp, f3 ...)

I mean, is this a joke or what?

He should be thankful he doesn't get a race ban. I'm increasingly worried about this kind of attitude by young drivers in feeder series. They act like it's never their fault and they feel entitled to do whatever boneheaded move they have in mind, as soon as they get a centimetre of car lenght in front of other competitors.

Is this guy for real!? What a ridiculous justification. How on earth was Jafar expected to 'move with him'?

I know drivers have to have a huge amount of self belief to get anywhere near the top in this competitive sport and all that, but that borders on self delusion :8:

No, the driver who is ahead does not have the right to swerve into the path of the car that has an overlap on him expecting him to move.
That's like, very basic stuff you should learn on day 1 of your karting, you jerk.

Should have parked him for a race. After those comments they should ban him until he understands he was in the wrong.

This and Maldonado's punishment are just light slaps on the wrist.

He should be humbly grateful that rollbar held up and keep his mouth shut.

Race 2 begins at half-past. Sainz is on pole by a country mile.
