That's not the issue that he's trying to fix, though. He's trying to make a cheap, updated alternative to Formula Renault. FRUK died, FFord shot itself in the foot, in steps F4.

There doesn't need to be a cheap alternative to FRenault because all the young karters are already well catered for when they step up by FRenault 2.0 NEC and Alps, which gives them experience of European circuits at a reasonable price.

Out of the top 5 in the World Karting Championship last year-

Nyck de Vries; now in FRenault 2.0 NEC
Alex Albon; now in FRenault 2.0 Alps
Flavio Camponeschi; stayed in karts
Ignazio D'Agosto; FRenault 2.0 NEC
Karol Basz; stayed in karts

This is just Palmer being Palmer again. Formula 4 will give the dregs of British karting a chance to find out how bad they are in proper single-seater machinery before they shuffle off to sportscars.

Those are not the type of driver that this category is aiming for. This category is basically getting the jump on FFord's plans to go wings and slicks. I only used FRUK dying because some of the kids who would have ran that will jump ship to this.

What is Scott Malvern even doing this year? I've not seen someone dominate like he did last year, for a long time.

Malvern is leading the FRenault BARC championship.

You know, the one that Alice won in 2010 - the reason she's the best driver in the world :O

Malvern's in BARC Formula Renault.

Probably a more competitive championship now the main FR has gone kaput.

I get that now. It's for those drivers who will never get beyond F3 unless they have huge amounts of money (see; Chilton, Max). All the good karters go straight into European FRenault.

There's no point in having competition at this level because it's not going to be on any ambitious racer's career ladder, just like F2 isn't. It's Palmer being Palmer, trying to kill FFord off because he wants that tiny bit of pie.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

And I'm not saying that it's a good thing, either. Just that FFord let it happen. Which is a shame.

Fair enough.

It irks when the good Dr. presents himself as some sort of saviour of British motorsport, when he's anything but.

Well, the other buyers interested in the circuits when they were up for sale was Sainsbury's and a house builder (they both wanted the Brands & Snetterton sites to build on), plus he also bailed out the British Superbikes when Dorna decided to focus on screwing up other things, so in some respects, the good Dr is the saviour of British Motorsports because the alternative was a Sainsbury's distribution hub on Brands, and a new town on Snetterton had he not bought it all.

However, that doesn't stop me agreeing with you, he saved the circuits & BSB but has otherwise only managed to screw up everything else he's meddled with, he really should just be content with his slice of pie and not want to eat it all. He's also one of the nastiest people I've had the misfortune to work for too, but don't let that cloud your judgement ;)

I'll give him credit for saving Brands, but that's it.

Snetterton I was always ambivalent towards and something would've come along to replace BSB.

Wanting to install a hairpin at Graham Hill Bend is a good way of undoing the saving of Brands though.

Going on about Brands, found an old Autosport with Nicola Foulston stating that Brands would have the GP by 2002...

Well, you said it. :p

As for Palmer, I have to thank him for saving Snetterton. I'm not that keen on the new changes, and it's never been the most exciting track in the country, but I've been watching racing there for 21 years. It's a special place for me. I really don't see the point in his new series, but hey, I'll go and watch it if it gets a big grid and throws up some good racing.

Can you imagine how much butchering would be required to bring Brands up to F1 standards?

Run-off at Paddock Hill Bend that stretches to the M20 probably.

The whole place would have been ruined, despite their utter mismanagement of the circuits, thank god Octagon gave her the skip full of £20 notes and told her to piss off to Switzerland.

Here are the plans Foulston wanted to execute in order to take F1 back to Brands Hatch...

But there was also another redesign proposed in the early-90's that makes Jonathan Palmer's plans look acceptable...

If that 1992 circuit was made, it would actually have been brilliant in a way.

It looks ok but the fast flow of Brands would have been lost.

Most of it looks fast and flowing though

I think the sharp corners break up the flow. Original Brands... only sharp corner is Druids... 1992 Brands with three sharp corners.
