Some bonehead driving today (Rahal, Hunter Reay, Franchitti, Newgarden, etc) but I have to say this race was 10/10. Classic race!

I really wanted Sato to win or at least get a podium. :x

Anyway, all in all, great race. Like it has already been said, usually when the F1 sucks, Indy rules, and vice versa. I guess today we were ultra lucky!!

That's some vintage IndyCar stuff. Hope this is a sign of things to come for the future of the series.

Back home again from Long Beach...

-The Indy Lights series was predictibly boring. Seriously, these cars are so underpowered that the racing quality suffers from it. No yellows, but no action.

-Then, there's the IndyCar race. Holy shit, what a race. Strategy, action, and retarded moves. It's easily the best race of the day and the second best race of the weekend.

There's an incident during the 24th lap from hell where Katherine Legge ran off into the tire barriers before entering the parking lot. Unfortunately, the track did not show replays of what exactly happened there and I'm not sure if NBC Sports noticed it. I sure did notice Tags with damage from that restart from doom.

And Jossef Newgarden has officially won me over. Too bad his race was over one turn in because of his own mistake, but he'll learn.

-Unfortunately, the day had to end with the worst World Challenge race I've ever seen, on stream, on TV, or even live in person. At least I marked (kind of) when the Caddy won overall, but you'd think they have some timing information on the trackside jumbotrons...

Was waiting to see when Dixon's horrid early season luck would strike! but all in all it was actually a pretty good race, not sure how Power saved that much! :8: I think a combo of him being awesome at it and the Chevy engine having bloody great fuel milage, will be very interesting on the ovals!

To be honest, it was Jossef's fault. Dario was off the hook and accordingly so.

It was a brave move and unfortunately didn't work out, I'd just call it a racing incident

eh they touched. maybe a bit less so than the others but still. you guys have to admit he gets away with alot more than others. last years LB grand prix is a good example even. it just seems that his was ok yet every other instance of contact a penalty was handed out. im sick of it so im picky about anything involving him i guess haha

I do agree Dario does get lucky quite often, nothing against him though, bloody fast driver!

Yeah, he is quick. Not today, tho, that incident totally fucked it up.

givin his speed on the straights and his complaining about HP i dont think that incident had much to do with it. he got more damage from the restart contact with briscoe than the newgarden incident

i know u were at the race tommy but on tv they were reporting that dario was complaining about the lack of power in his engine about midway through the race. at first they tried to play it off as "fuel saving mode" but once he got destroyed on a couple restarts they admitted he was worried about his engine

That explains why he was crap at the restarts. Never thought of that. I don't have a scanner on me to listen to Dario's conversations, so I assumed that his bodywork got damaged.

Final batch of photos. Gonna work on uploading some videos later:

Watched this race on tape. Couple of thoughts...

1) Really entertaining race. The opening of the pits I thought actually added some spice and strategy mix.

2) As for Marco's crash... Not good. What, to me anyway, appeared to launch the car was the bottom tray as it extends past the front of the sidepod. After his wheel ran up Grahams that part of the car seemed to hit the tire and propel it upwards. More worrisome than that was the fact they were doing maybe all of 120mph in that section of track and the car actually seemed to lift from aerodynamic effects. At the slow speed they were going his car should have fallen like a rock, yet, it did not.

Get rid of the flat bottom trays and mold them to the same shape as the car's sidepods. That will reduce the amount downforce and reduce the area of car susceptible to catching air.

I really wouldn't jump any conclusions about Andretti/Rahal incident. The car just got in the air because of a wheels touching, which could have happened to any type of race cars. We've all seen worse and the talk is on only because it's IndyCars. No one's talking about new nosecone regulations and Webber's incidents in 2010 Valencia or 2012 China.

For example.

And this compilation has quite many of them.
