Rubens is great and will be great for Indy to have him, I'm sure he's going to do a good job there. Can't wait to see him in his first oval

Listen up, Rubens Barrichello, 19 years of Formula One career, driving in the Worlds greatest racing circus. Formula One: a series where it radiates knowledge, technology and performance every single racing weekend. You simply cannot sustain any negative opinion on a driver who spends 19 years involved directly on an environment like that.

And I'm not defending Barrichello because I'm supposedly a "Barrichello fan", no I'm not! Everyone who knows me know I have several critics against his career in many aspects. But this DOES NOT nullify the fact he's adding a LOT of quality and knowledge on IndyCar Racing and If you like Indy, you should be thankful.

So you strongly NEED to read your post again and think If you're right or wrong by saying "last thing IndyCar needs is a guy like that". Sorry but you're completely wrong on your thinking. I believe I'll quote your post in the future when Barrichello starts winning races on IndyCar.

The last thing IndyCar needs is anyone from F1 showing up and winning right off the bat. That goes for anybody, Rubens or not. When I say "last thing IndyCar needs is a guy like that" I mean no disrespect to Rubens. I for one want to see him do well, especially since I see Brazil as a very important market for IndyCar.

I think the point Shane was making is that Rubens winning in his very first race could easily create the perception that the Indycar field is weaker than it really is.

If he turns out to be better driver than anyone else, how the fuck can that affect IndyCar. It would mean that one of the best drivers in the world is racing in the series and would also mean that a new team is beating the big guns.

One of the best drivers in the world that couldn't keep a seat in F1 takes a team that couldn't hold a candle to the best teams in the league and starts to win races right off the bat wouldn't possibly create a negative perception about the quality of IndyCar teams and drivers? Yeeaahh....

That's exactly it.

Personally I want Rubens to do well, it would be awesome if he won in Brazil even. To be honest if life was fair he would still be in F1. Just don't want to see him dominate right off the bat.

I get what you mean, I just don't think it'd be an issue.

Because (and I'm not sure why I'm arguing someone else's argument here :p ) if he swans in and wins everything it'll perpetuate the stereotype that F1 is the most prestigious series in the world and its drivers can turn their hand to any other series and dominate it easily.

No one wants more fanboys saying "Indycar is so easy even that old man Barrichello could turn up and win on his first attempt" etc

Which he won't, of course, he'll need to adjust to the differences like any other driver, but that won't stop the fanboys, eh.

I completely agree. Would like to at least see him be almost up to par with all the others by the 2nd half of the season.

So a good driver winning in the series is bad for it, but a shit driver like Danica winning is the dawn of a new age?

No, a driver coming from a completely different series (F1 and the off chance it ever happens, NASCAR) and winning off the bat with a team that isn't nearly on par with the top three other teams in the series is bad for the perception of IndyCar.

Danica winning was more like, "it took you long enough".

What differences?

It's a brand new car with brand new engines for everybody. That's the main reason why he has a chance of being competitive. If they were still racing the Cessnas with wheels he would have a much tougher time of it. He isn't going to walk it but he will be very competitive, and, hopefully, he diversifies the title battle a bit. Will v Dario is getting a bit old hat.

It's a bit rich to bemoan the presence of one particularly talented European-based refugee when 75% of the grid are European-based refugees.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

I'm looking forward to seeing how the new car performs. I'm betting on a Will Power victory.

Indycar field is much poorer comparing to F1 anyway. I don't think RB winning would be negative, unless RB laps the entire field twice and all that. His winning will just generate greater attention to the series.

Dixon leads FP1, followed by Briscoe, Power, Franchitti, Pagenaud, Wilson, Andretti, Conway, Rahal, Castroneves.

Barrichello did just 8 laps, 24th fastest.

Legge last, 1.3 seconds off the next guy.

Times about a second off last year's pole, but about a seconds faster than last year's first practice.

Something to take into account when comparing times to the old car is that they have changed the kurbs for this year which has apparently made some corners a bit slower:

Surely. The official IndyCar Youtube channel usually has highlights of every session.
