I think its more by default more than anything else.

Besides, despite the quiteness of the project, Judd could always turn out a giant-killer.

Ford could always buy out the Judd project in the near future.

Miller said that the Judd-built engine was 20 pounds lighter than the Honda or Chevy, so who knows how that might affect things.

Tony Kanaan plans on racing next season.

Tony Kanaan, the former team-mate and long-time friend of Dan Wheldon who was killed in the IndyCar Series finale at Las Vegas, says the day he believes the sport is too dangerous is the day he will retire from racing.

Kanaan was leading Sunday's tragic race, which was red-flagged and not restarted following the multi-car crash on lap 11 that claimed Wheldon's life.

Speaking on CNN's Piers Morgan Tonight on Monday, Kanaan was asked for his opinion of safety standards in IndyCar racing, and if he might reconsider his future as a driver after seeing the aftermath of the fatal crash.

"To me, the day that I start thinking this is too dangerous, it's the day it's time to stop," said Kanaan, who drives for KV Racing. "I lost one of my best friends. I know it's going to be very hard to forget, I don't think I ever will. It's really hard to swallow and I'll remember him every time. But, as a race car driver, it's one of the things you have to have.

"If it ever crossed my mind that it was too dangerous, I should go and do something else. Now I think if Dan Wheldon was here, and I announced I was going to retire, he'd be the first guy to call my team owner to take my place. I will try to honour him as best I can on the racetrack.

"As far as safety [is concerned], I think we're getting better every time. I think that track was well equipped, the cars as well. Racing is dangerous. It's been like that for 100 years."

Kanaan said the aftermath of the accident was the worst he had seen in his entire racing career.

"When I went through the wreck, probably 30 seconds after it happened, I realised it was a mess. It looked like it was a war," he said. "Pieces of cars on fire, cars flipped - in 27 years of racing I have never seen such a big mess like that. I had to hold myself [together] at that point.

"It's part of our job, we get exposed to those type of things every weekend. It's part of racing, but it's never nice to see something like that."

That was PRIOR to the crash, now I think it'll be different, maybe. But with the new cars for next season probably they will keep the event. I don't think this is so important at the moment.

I think that they will cap the field to 26 cars next season for non-Indy events. And maybe it's time to get some kind of superlicense for drivers that want to race on ovals.

Also they should get rid of 1.5 mile ovals and get back on flat 1 mile ovals and 2 mile superspeedways like Michigan and Fontana with Handford device.

Trenton (until 1980), Atlanta (until 1983), then Homestead and Motegi. But point remains that they didn't run on high banked 1,5-milers with modern Indycars until that race at Texas.

much of the calendar in 2012 is still an unknown. Sure is we are going to lose Motegi, Kentucky and Milwaukee.
Fontana is back in and so is Detroit. Furthermore (according to wikipedia, maybe not the most credible source) races could take place in Charlotte, Chicagoland, Road America and other road courses such as Laguna Seca and Houston. Internationalisation is also on the agenda.

OT, is Gateway still an active race track?

+1. What has been learned over the last 10 years is that Indycar should race only on flat ovals. Add only those, please...

There is absolutely no way Chicagoland and Charlotte will make their way in after all that's happened.

Well, what flat tracks are there left? Phoenix has too been NASCARirized. Loudon probably won't come back. Pike's Peak, Walt Disney and that other track in Chicago are all dead. Man, Trenton today would be sweet. We are all dreamers, aren't we?

From big ovals I think that only Michigan, Pocono and Fontana would be good to add to the calendar.

I think Phoenix is safe, I don't think Indycars could run around there with the throttle nailed to the floor, even with the new banking.

'Crazy' Alesi is still on for Indy despite what happened at Las Vegas.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.
