IndyCar moves to Edmonton for their second and last race of the season in Canada. The city airport layout is a brand new one for this year, set-up for what could be the best race seen to date at the facility. In the old layout, Dixon (twice) and Power won with IndyCar spec cars, while Bourdais (twice) and Wilson have won in CCWS spec cars. Both rookies J.R. Hildebrand and James Hinchcliffe won the 2 only Indy Lights races and the track, while Alex Tagliani won there three years ago in a Canadian Tire race.

I just hope the driving standards improve after a both laughable and sad Toronto race.

I guess they'll have a long chat about driving standards in the drivers meeting.

Why did they change the layout?

Edmonton shut down one of the runways of this airport completely last year. Unfortunately, with only one runway now open, and the old course being on part of this old runway, this meant that the city would have to completely shut down the airport in order to run the race (which would impact things like medevac services). The city balked at allowing this to happen, which for a while cancelled the race entirely.

The new course is run completely on the shut down runway section.

Unfortunately, the entire Edmonton City Centre airport is being shut down bit by bit. So if this new course ends up being awesome, it may not last long. :(

I like the new layout. Seems like it will make for much better racing.

I will miss the crazy, high-speed chicane from the past layout though.

Going by the Spotters Guide on IndyCar.com the non-Power Penske racers will be in Penske Truck Rental schemes. Helio in a yellow and white car with blue accents while Briscoe runs the typical looking Penske Truck Rental colors. Other then that the field will look the same from the last race.

That would be amazing. I'm guessing there's not really a conflict with F1, seeing as CCWS used to go there?

New Edmonton layout should produce a better race. I'll also miss that fast chicane though.

Announcement was just made that they are going to making the call at 3 p.m. local time as to whether cars will go on track or not. 3-4 p.m. Indy Lights then 4:15 until 5:45 providing the rain lets up a little bit. I am parked in the media parking lot, or what I want to call the media swamp....

The rain was brutal here all day today. Just didn't stop even for a bit. Looking out my window now its still a bit overcast but starting to see patches of blue sky. Supposed to totally clear up by tomorrow morning so we should see two solid days of dry running.
The facilities at the circuit arent great for spectators though, so I'm not looking forward to wading through wet grass and getting attacked by all the mosquitos :(

I agree Karan! Today was brutal. I shot for maybe a total of 30 minutes. Shooting positions ARE in fact pretty sparse. Cool layout...still haven't seen cars on track, but it seems that the layout is a little bit bad for photos...we shall see tomorrow.
