Homestead 2009 I think was caution free.

They have really got to get these starts figured out. I know their open wheel and all that, but for Christ sake guys grow a set of balls and get to the line side by side. It's not that hard and it's no more dangerous than banging wheels at 215 in the corner... And there was plenty of that going on last night.

I think a random draw is valid on an oval track, but on a racing series were drivers can actually complete a goddamn pass. You see guys in NASCAR, they go to the back for whatever reason, and if they have a great car, they will be near the front in half a stint. And then, you could see Dario with a much better car, being stuck at 27th or 28th place for a ton of laps, only to gain when the pitstops occured.

I think the two race formatr produced the complete opposite of what the orgonisers wanted.

1 Caution in 550K at Texas is unheard of, and there wasn't THAT much racing. I think either lengthening each race to 325KM, or bringing back one 550K race needs to happen...

Yeah it was forgot about one They said the average speed was 206.7mph surely there's not race that's been as fast as that even in the CART era

The fastest race was Fontana in 2002 in CART with 197.995 mph. So i guess that means this is the fastest in history.

According to Racing Reference, the 2003 Fontana IRL race had an average of 207.1 mph

CART's 2002 race is the fastest 500 mile race. 2003 IRL at Fontana is the fastest open wheel race

Not the greatest race I've ever seen, but not terrible. Having DVR'd it probably helped. I was a bit surprised at how long the delay between races was though. There's nothing wrong with the random draw, sort of. There are a great many short tracks that use the random draw to set part of the field (not the whole thing.) If they're going to continue with this double race format, I'd suggest either inverting the top 10 for the second race, or doing the re-draw for the top 10 for the second race. That way, at worst, you're not screwing the guy who won race 1 and you're keeping the shlock out of the way. They have really got to get these starts figured out. The thing is, Dario's car was steaming shit at the start of race 2. He was getting passed by Conway like he was standing still early on. Dixon was in the top ten before you could blink, so it wasn't terribly hard to move up.

I like the idea of a reverse grid, you'd have all the fast guys racing to the front and it'd give a random a shot at winning

Only about 9 cars turned up and due to the reversing the top 10, a Lexus which was about 10 seconds off the pace was given pole. To avoid the embarrassment of going from 1st to last in half a lap, they pitted on the formation lap. I was trackside for that miserable weekend.

And they still managed a first lap accident as well. I'm sure I have a clip of James Kaye being punted off on my video camera somewhere! I think of one of the 2 Lexus cars never even saw the track either. Happy days.
