Just a friendly FYI to everyone claiming that the race was JR's....we have proof here in the Indianapolis Motor Speedway media centre, in multiple images... that there were NO YELLOW LIGHTS ON when Wheldon got past at the line...it was a race to the yellow/checkered...sorry folks

They don't have much of a case, anyway.

Panther never launched a protest anyway.

Official #indy500 box score in hand. Wheldon wins, Dixon now fifth, Oriol sixth. That's a big-money switch!

So the investigation was for who finished fifth rather then who won.

Wheldon became the winner with the fewest laps led (one). He led just a few hundred yards, actually. #indy500

Pretty nice start haha.

None of the 7 families interviewed during the qualifying weekends made the race day broadcast from what I hear, so I'm pissed about that.

Still lolling @ pages 79/80. Such terrible luck, he will not live that one down unless he can win this race someday.

Just got back from the pub that believed in us enough to show it.....

WOW!!!!!!!!

All I have to say is, That tops 2006 by a million. I was standing up when the white flag came out with my gf thinking I was a loser, and WOW.....

I'm off to call the MK Citizen to grab a copy of their paper this week. This is the biggest victory for Milton Keynes in like forever! Monaco GP for Red Bull, then Wheldon for Indy.... AMAZING!

Needs a motivational poster IMO.

My internet died for a few hours so that's why I left unexpectedly. Great race through and through and congrats to Wheldon for his victory. I feel bad for Hildebrand though. Was rooting for him those last few laps. Lesson learned for him for sure.

Wasn't Dixon ahead of Wheldon a few laps from the end? Guess Wheldon must have been flying.

Gutted for JR. Hurts to watch that lap back!

I think Dixon was trying to save fuel..... Bet Franchitti wishes he did so a bit more now also!

2 quick things...

That last lap, seeing it again... WOW!

And EPSN.. From the youtube vid by MT, seems to have a new Ticker scheme, but the international feed doesn't?!?!? I saw some ofd the graphics being different, but how does different countries get different bits of eed like that? (I'm talking about Sky Sports, and the ticker, we know from ESPN races of old...)

I got bored and went to do other things. Played back the PVR recording @ >>> speed while reading this thread. Was done in about 4 minutes.

LoL @ Danica "leading". Same as years ago, wasn't legit, 'cos she had to pit (like everyone else).
LoL @ Baguette. Well LoL @ all you who thought he had a shot. He had to pit (like everyone else).

Watched the last 5 laps in real time. There goes the breadman into the pits... lol.. .there goes the leader .. into the wall. Oh so "predictable". Well, not that anyone would have predicted it but it's predictable that if a Ganassi car wasn't going to win then it was going to be because someone screwed up. But last lap last corner, ouches...

Anyways.. as for the 'flag' status, excuse me but what was the ruling back in 2002? Quote Tony GeorgE:
"Clearly Helio (Castroneves) was in front when the call (for the yellow) was made".

So the precedent was set. It doesn't matte what color the lights are, doesn't matter what color the flag(s) is, the moment that the race was 'dead' was the moment the officials made the (decision to announce the) call.

It shouldn't matter whether protests or not, the rules should be consistently applied. IF someone in Race Control said "yellow", and Wheldone was behind Hildebrand then Hildebrand was in front when positions were frozen.

The question is did they?

^^^ I agree.... We need race control's feed to understand the desicion, however, I don't think now, after 4 hours, the result will be changed... Wheldon's face is already on that trophy, and as soon as you srink the milk, the race is yours...
