As is anyone who thinks Helio won in 2002. But sadly, that's what we're dealing with here.

Rightfully so. It's clear as day that no caution lights were out.

This one, however, is subjective and is totally dependent on who you ask.

Hildebrand's wikipedia article has been fun to read so far tonight. So far these are the highlights:

2 Driven references
Biggest choke in sports history
He killed himself and the hopes of American IndyCar racing after he hit push to pass on the last lap.
Replace pass with crash on that last note.

I'm surprised he wasn't given more abuse for screwing up so badly.

Seriously though, Kimball should've just gone on the warmup lane.

I was livid. Apoplectic. I always, ALWAYS knew Charlie Kimball wasn't very good. But that was Duno quality. A disgrace.

Not really, because all the drivers were slowing down a shitload on the last few laps.

All I'm saying is, I heard a lot of drivers backing off on the straights not running full throttle in order to save fuel, and Kimball was doing the same thing. Now, I will be the first guy to admit he should've been in the warmup lane because it was the last lap of the race and his spotter should've told him that the leader was coming.

Maybe, but he did what is expected from a backmarker. It was Hildebrand who made a mistake, not Kimball being at fault.

Yeah, that's also true. It was just bad luck that two rookies in their first oval race in the IICS were in the same corner on the last lap with one of them leading the race.

I think the point is that Kimball should never have put Hildebrand in that position in the first place. Maybe it was down to the spotter not giving him enough info or maybe it was just purely poor decision-making on Kimball's part, but it shouldn't have happened.

It wasnt Kimball's fault. Plain and simple. He was doing what he was supposed to be doing as a slower car. You guys ever think that maybe the closing rate was so quick that if Kimball had any idea that the leader was coming, he just didnt have enough time to make a split second decision to hit the slow down lane?

JR fucked up, he misjudged or whatever you want to call it. He lost, thats that.

"Between Dario and myself, we had this one pretty well covered," Dixon said. "This is one of those places where it's tough to win. We went on a bit of a run fuel-wise late in the race, and that's what paid off for us last year.

"We short-fueled, and why we short-fueled, I don't know. We stopped 10 laps later than anybody else on any strategy, there's no way we should run out of fuel.

"I definitely leave here thinking that I should have won my second 500."

pretty much my thoughts, so puzzled at Ganassi
