That Iowa spec wing is huge and fills me with immense dread that the crappy IRL Over-downforced pack racing isn't going anywhere with the new chassis :(

Looking at the car that sense of "Oh dear god what have they done" dread is rushing over me.

I know we ask a lot of racing cars, fastest, safest, puts on good racing, etc, but is "being good looking" too old fashioned a desire these days? :yuk:

That's the same thing I thought when I saw that picture. That is one gigantic wing.

For comparison, here was the oval wing used at Homestead in 1996:

And here was the wing used at Road America in 1995 (yes, a road course -- albeit a fast one -- where they used a smaller wing than this thing)

The sight of the new car fills me with disgust, I don't how I could possibly watch this series next year. It's just so ridiculous looking it annoys me.

Look's as if IndyCar won't be racing at Laguna Seca in 2012.

Laguna Seca's 2012 schedule released

· May 11-12, American Le Mans Series
· May 18-20, Ferrari Racing Days
· July 13-14, GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series
· July 27-29, Red Bull United States Grand Prix featuring the MotoGP World Championship
· August 17-19, Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion

One car going through the corkscrew by itself is more entertaining than the entire Infineon race.

Gugelmin!

Gugelmin's helmet was the best thing about CART in the 90's.

Except his actual name of course; "Mauricio Gugelmin".

According to Miller, Kentucky is gone for 2012. Sonoma will stay hence no chance of Laguna Seca comeback. Overall, only five ovals remain and total of sixteen races (including the Texas double-header). Teams rejected the Iowa double-header idea. Belle Isle and Fontana will replace Motegi and Milwaukee as projected before, but with Kentucky out, we'll have one less venue on the calendar. The second race in Brazil is a bust too. Still no final word on Loudon, but it's very unlikley to happen as well.

Back in the CART heyday of the early 90's they only had Phoenix, Indy, Milwaukee, Michigan, Nazareth and Loudon as ovals

That was due to a lack of suitable oval tracks for IndyCar. After the split, a wave of oval tracks began to be built.

Las Vegas (1996), Homestead (1996), Fontana (1997), Gateway (1997), Pikes Peak (1997), Texas (1997), Kentucky (2000), Kansas (2001), Chicagoland (2001), Nashville (2001), and Iowa (2007).

I'd be quite dissapointed if we do lose a lot of the ovals as i've actually come to really enjoy them over the past 15 years.

Thought New Hampshire was actually a pretty good race (Untill the mess at the end) & Kentucky usually puts on a good show.

We get Fontana back which is good but its a shame to lose Milwaukee again, Especially for Belle-Isle which was never one of my favorite races.
