Cleveland coming back would be so awesome, the greatest track for racing ever!
Long straights+wide corners+nothing to hit=drivers throwing it down the inside, running wide, being repassed, trying again at the next corner, etc. (Plus occasional lol worthy Clusterfucks at the start!) Amazing.

Would do anything to see it back, sadly I fear not, even that "half oval, half road course" event stunt didn't seem to do it :(

Even as a Champcar fan back in the day, one who thought it was a shame that series only got to run 2 ovals a year in its dying days (then just one...then....*sigh*) I recognise that a North American series needs to have at LEAST 40% of its races on ovals...

Don't quote me on this, but a guy I know on another forum said that the mayor and those who run the Cleveland GP are still anti-IRL. Chances are, as much as I really want IndyCar to run at Burke Lakefront Airport, it's not gonna happen.

Yeah, the choice was Ferrari or Williams. I remember Jean saying his head said Williams, his heart said Ferrari.

One thing you always knew about Alesi is that he always went with his heart! Showed with his driving too.

I'd love to see him do well at Indy, of course, he was my favorite as long as he raced in F1, but I can't help to think that KV will have to repair many cars that month. If they keep Sato and Viso too.

He wasn't useless, those lousy Ferraris in the early 90s amongst other teams he drove for later on is what held him back. I think I remember Jean considering Williams at one point before choosing Ferrari? Imagine what could have been...

so not only was useless but also pretty stupid :flag:

anyway, i'm seriously concerned for is life, he is 47 and has never driven on an oval track, something similar to Nelson Piquet's adventure in indy wich ended pretty badly.

Actually signing with Ferrari in '91 wasn't a bad idea for the time when they were expected to have another championship season like the year previous.

But you have to realize that indycars in '92 were much more difficult to drive that today's Dallara and most likely the new car won't be any different. Even fucking Saavedra went sideways out of 2 this year in bump day and didn't crashed. You just have to be one of those useless drivers that use to crash everytime, everywhere or have a mechanical failure to end up in the wall on your own at Indy. And Alesi isn't useless.

It can be fun though. Remember, Alesi was very much an old school racer, stubbornly keeping to traditional gear shifters instead of paddles etc, so Alesi in the ultra high tech Williams' '91-'93 would be far from a match made in heaven. But put him in an Indycar.... Too bad he's far from his peak now.

SFR investing in having Tomas in the 67 for next year wouldn't be a bad idea. If I'm Carpenter I would start talking with Foyt and see if Honda could fork over enough money to run the 41 at all the ovals next year.

I just watched the start of the Indy Lights race at Laguna Seca from 1998 and the cars were aligned perfectly. Amazing that those drivers could do better starts than...

Also worth remembering that before the crash Piquet had been pretty quick.

There has also been a fair few Ex-F1 drivers who have run at Indy without issue before & since (Nigel Mansell the following year for instance).

I think those who followed F1 closely at the time Alesi was around would proberly all say that Alesi almost certainly had more talent than looking at just his results would let you believe.

The Ferrari, Especially in 1992 was not only slow but also ridiculously unreliable & when they started to find the speed in 1994/95 it was still ridiculously unreliable & Alesi lost at least 3 possibilities at a win due to the car failing.

Also seem to recall him been fairly evenly matched to Alain Prost in terms of pace quite a few times through 1991.

I guess 34 at the start of the race.

And I expect 8 in the end. :p They should have picked Bristol for the final Dallara Destruction Derby.

But then there would be no cars left by the time they reach halfway.

Sadly I'm expecting it to go a lot like the Texas letdown, big fanfare but once the green drops some dull racing.

Would love to be proved wrong though.
