Ok, I think we haven't got a thread about those series yet

Driver, broadcaster Didier Schraenen has heart attack after race
Schraenen in stable condition in hospital after he was airlifted to hospital with a blocked artery, spokesman says

Racing driver and television commentator Didier Schraenen is in stable condition in hospital after he suffered a heart attack after competing in the Formula Tour 1600 race at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on Sunday morning.

Schraenen, 51, was taken by helicopter to Sacre-Coeur hospital for emergency surgery to open an almost completely blocked artery, a race spokesman said.

He is in stable condition and should be released from hospital within a few days.

Schraenen finished eighth among 30 drivers in the F1600 race. He is a three-time Canadian F1600 champion. The St-Hilaire, Que., native is a racing analyst on the RDS all-sports network.

I weas shocked when I heard about this. He was near the commentators building behind the final chicane, and he had a heart attack. Had he been at home, he would have died. Doctors had to proceed CPR twice before joining the helicopter. He was aware of what was going on and could talk.

I met him several times, and it would have been so sad to lose him. Go Didier, be strong !

no, in that series, there is no age restriction. That's actually the Quebec Championship. There is another championship in Canada, in Ontario. Rules may be a little different, I don't know :p

I read this from the main newspaper today. Didier Schraenen is lucky to be alive. Let's hope him a speedy recovery.

Shouldn't this be in the open wheel section?

Well have to say the dutch FF is a bit of dead, in march there where 5 or 6 CARS on the grild and 2 failed to finish.
Now there 9 CARS ! i think their are 2 many race classes a.t.m. why driving FF if you can drive GP3 or Formula BMW etc ?

It's rare for someone to go straight from karting into a wings & slicks cars, Formula Ford gives them that perfect level in between, the Formula Ford series in NZ has dropped off big time the past couple of years, but it's huge in Aussie, they have 28 cars confirmed for next season already

Pfft, that's nothing. One round at Sandown in the late 90's had 46 cars. Bloody miracle they could fit all 46 in on a track that size. But it is good to see 28 for next year, after seeing car counts recently in the mid to high teens, and at best, low 20's.
