autosport.com wrote: Dixon fastest in first practice
Friday, July 16th 2010, 15:00 GMT Scott Dixon was quickest in opening practice for this weekend's IndyCar street race in Toronto, despite tangling with Takuma Sato at the end of the hour. Contact between Dixon and Sato at Turn 6 saw the KV car spin around in front of Dixon's Ganassi Dallara and come to a halt blocking it. The following Bertrand Baguette (Conquest) then slid into the rear of Dixon's car in the traffic jam. The incident brought the session to a slightly early end, with the officials deciding to throw the chequered flag as well as a yellow to allow the three cars to be restarted. Sato had also been at the centre of the morning's other yellow, when he crashed at the final turn on what would have been his first lap. The incident neatly removed Sato's rear wing, but he was soon back on track with a new one. Dixon and the rest of the Ganassi and Penske contingent had sat out most of the morning, letting the underdogs clean the circuit and only joining in with 20 minutes to go. It did not take Dixon long to go fastest on a 1m03.9149s, just 0.0655s ahead of Justin Wilson's Dreyer & Reinbold car. Alex Tagliani got his home race weekend off to a great start with third for Fazzt, followed by Penske's Helio Castroneves, Ganassi's Dario Franchitti and Andretti Autosport duo Tony Kanaan and Ryan Hunter-Reay. Championship leader Will Power was back in eighth for Penske. KV's EJ Viso was one of a host of drivers who had a turn on top during the opening 40 minutes and ended up ninth. Returnees Tomas Scheckter (Dreyer & Reinbold), Graham Rahal (Newman/Haas) and Paul Tracy (KV) were 11th, 13th and 15th respectively. Code: Pos Driver Team Time Gap |

autosport.com wrote: Hunter-Reay pips Wilson in practice
Friday, July 16th 2010, 18:54 GMT Ryan Hunter-Reay snatched the top spot from Justin Wilson in the closing moments of Friday's second IndyCar practice session in Toronto. Dreyer & Reinbold driver Wilson had led most of the hour, holding a half-second advantage for much of the session. But his rivals began closing in on the Briton's 1m02.1839s lap late on, with Andretti Autosport's Hunter-Reay finally sneaking ahead by 0.0406 seconds. Penske's Helio Castroneves and Will Power were third and fourth, ahead of a strong fifth place from Raphael Matos (De Ferran Dragon). Alex Tagliani was again a frontrunner in his home country, the Fazzt driver holding a top three spot for much of the afternoon and eventually taking sixth. A late improvement earned EJ Viso seventh for KV, with Ganassi's Scott Dixon and Dario Franchitti next up and Penske's Ryan Briscoe completing the top ten. Local hero Paul Tracy completed only eight laps and spent much of the session in the KV Racing pit. Despite countless visits to the run-off areas and some minor brushes with the wall by various drivers, there was only one significant accident - when Newman/Haas' Hideki Mutoh lost control on acceleration out of Turn 1 and spun into the Turn 2 wall, mangling his car's rear end. |

You know what I hate about the fact Milka is still been allowed to run in the series? It isn't the fact she's so slow, Its the fact that the IRL prevented Marty Roth from running & basically told him to go away. |

Roth was the one who had a hissy fit and packed up and left. Pretty insulting to his team really. |

Some interesting new camera angles in the practice highlights vid, I wonder if it means a new production crew is covering the race domestically for Verses... Or maybe they're just trying things out in practice and normal service will be resumed. I echo the sentiments of others, always a great race guaranteed here. I'm struggling to remember back through the years if I can remember a bad one. (Aside from 1996 which was a terrible race, but for different reasons than just excitement..) Nope! Even through the low periods like 2004, it was always a great spectacle in Toronto. (2004 was the year Tracy got a random BS penalty and ended up overtaking something like 3 cars a lap to drag himself up the field, was awesome..) Look for Paul to be a factor this weekend. If not for the outright win then he'll be generating the headlines somehow! |

Woah, look at the speed difference of the onboard car and Milka exiting the final corner. That's messed up. |

I'll echo those sentiments too. Exhibition Place Toronto is an awesome circuit, and I'm glad it's on the IRL calendar. |

I really wish they confiscate Duno's car and put a top driver in it just to see how bad it really is. I really don't think she's 6 seconds slower then Lloyd on (lack of) talent alone. |
