Has anyone been to an F3/GT meeting before? I'm tempted to go to Silverstone for the next race. Worth going to? Anyone else going and fancy a meet up?

I would definitely go although seeing them on a small bullring like Oulton or Snetterton is much more fun. There's some awesome racing in the Formula Ford UK and indeed the VW series is great too. Last year I went some Golf from the 80's won, which was a big surprise to all.

Don't forget that Silverstone will have one of the biggest grids in BF3 in quite a few races.

I see Nasr finished 3rd in the latest race. Looks like he'll be right on the pace soon...

Vergne wins race 2 at Magny-Cours in what was a fairly wild event.

Oli Webb won the first race yesterday.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

It sounds stupid from a fans perspective but I think the drivers will really dig this. In GP2 there's a mandatory pitstop and of course F1 also has pitstops. If you are progressing through the normal ranks (FBMW, FFord, GP3, F3) you may not have any race pitstop experience before you reach GP2 level. Now you can get that experience in BF3. Same with the new 2010 reverse grid of the second race. This is also something that you will have to deal with in GP2. Also the drivers wanted more track time so they introduced the three race format. If there ever was a choice between F3ES and BF3 I think that has now gone completely away. Some years ago Euroseries was also preferred because they did the F1 circuits but with BF going to Spa, Silverstone GP, Magny-Cours, Hockenheim, Portimao that is also now out of the question. I don't think they really need to fight against GP3/F2, because F3 team bosses are still saying that F3 is the only Formula series on this level at which the driver needs to work on the setup and can change tons of things, similar to F1. So the whole engineer, setup thing is much more advanced then something like F2, where you really can't change much on the car and you get random engineers working on the car.

I assume that they will have even bigger grids next year.

They won't even have to take on tyres or anything from the sound of it, They will just be stop & Go's.

I hate mandatory stops as they always seem to take away from the racing. I've yet to see any series add a mandatory stop & have the racing improve.

Why they always look at pit stops to 'improve the racing' I'll never know as surely the best way to improve the racing is to actually fix the On-Track racing rather than move towards pit strategy.

They're not trying to improve the racing. F2 do the same (or at least planned to do it). It's to teach the drivers about strategy. It's a junior series, remember

Pitstops ruin racing :(

But then F3 has to be the series with the most skewed "for drivers/for spectators" ratio out there.

Sometimes you wonder if they care if anyone shows up to watch them, it's all about the drivers and teams the majority of the time.

Well now, I can tell you this will ruin what is already quite dull racing. Maybe they should just go support DTM and be done with it.

From Alexander Sims website:

''Prior to this, Alexander is expected to make his second outing of the year in the British Formula 3 International Series during the championship’s visit to Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium on 30th/31st July."

Great, that's a good boost to the grid. Esteban has a GP3 race so he won't :( but it would be great if ART brought some 2-3 cars.

I saw them racing at Rockingham today and the pit stops weren't too bad. The racing was generally pretty good in both races except for a bit of a pile up at the hairpin in the 2nd race!

Yeah, Autosport called it a "malestrom at the hairpin", which I thought was an interesting description.

I must use it more :p
