Do you think the aero changes and the push-to-pass button will help the racing?

A 'push-to-pass' style element is avaliable in many formula, including Champcar, A1GP, F2 and F1. I'd hardly call a series with such an addition not proper.

Same as CART produced with the Handford Device, but everyone had a wank over that back in the day.

People just don't want to admit that Indy Car made some great changes this time.

Amen. Hopefully it'll work at some of the other ovals as well.

Really enjoyable race. Especially the finish. Carpenter might be abit slow on the road courses but he drove a fantastic race last night and would have been a deserving winner.

I wouldn't be surprised if once they all work out which of the optional trick bits work better than others, it might go back to more single file (remember they only had an hour to work out what to put on the car and fiddle with setups), but the race kept my attention last night which is more than most GP's do nowdays.

I would argue there was more skill involved with the Handford device because back then they still had throttle control and it wasn't just a case of "keep your foot flat and drive around the inside..."

FFS Ed Carpenter nearly won this race. That's all you really need to know.

It just proves its all about downforce and hugging the inside line with very little driver skill if Captain Inherited can run that well.
The guy has zero talent....

It's not as if he didn't work his way up, with the lack of practice he probably lucked into a good setup, just like Moraes did. Others missed the boat.

Moraes is fast on ovals. He didn't luck into a good setup.

Handford races were almost all completely flat out. de Ferrans pole lap of 241mph at Fontana is called great, even thought he just held his foot down.

IRL made a great set of changes and it produced great racing.

+1

He only has 4 career Top 5 finishes in 95 starts. Christ, even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.

I'm sure he did a great job with the setup of his car.

I agree that Ed Capenter nearly won it showed how much skill is it required to win with this type of car, however, I have to say by IRL's standard, although it was not as a "good" race as those before 2004 where a whole pack of cars are stuck together and can't easily make a full pass, but it was quite like those races in 2005-2006 where passing was still possible. I prefer the "artificial" handford racing than those artificial "stuck together" racing, but the last few laps were in one way rather entertaining and I did enjoy those bits where Capenter went really close to Briscoe in the corners.
