If only the "merger" saw the IRL teams adopt the ex-CC Panoz... there are great teams and drivers in IndyCar, but that counts for nothing when they have to use such a shit, ugly, dated, and uninspiring package. Get the future sorted now and listen to what the fans want!

For other comparissons. Fastest time of this weekend was Dario's pole time of 1:01.0249.

Bourdais 2007 Pole Time was 58.288.

All time lap record at Toronto was De Ferran's 1999 pole time 57.143, I think.

Current cars generate plenty of downforce so im guessing the big gap is mostly down to power, or relative lack there-of.

In 1999 De Ferran had what, 950+Bhp in qualifying on high boost, today's Honda has 650-675Bhp which isn't enough. Whatever they have next should have at least 800Bhp in my opinion.

Plus all the downforce is going to generate nothing but drag on the straights...
It wouldn't suprise me to see the IRL cars are losing something like a second to a Champcar just on the straight alone but making a slight bit back in the corners...

I didn't see this race since I was at Portland's raceway. Did Helio crash into Tracy? I saw results and saw they crashed on the same lap.

It was a damn shame. That was Paul's race. He was driving superbly.

Oh is that what that crash was halfway down the straight after the race?

I had the sound off on my stream at that stage and saw a car blatentely turn the car in front into the wall onto the run to turn three and just assumed they were replaying something from practice.

Anyway, the IRL should pay to run Paul Tracy in every race, he makes the action 10x better.

I'm still disgusted by the absolute bullshit call he got just prior to his accident though. WTF was that all about?
Cars in pit lane can stay ahead of cars on the track if they cross the pit entry line ahead of the car behind?
Vasser seemed as bemused as most of the public was.
I guess the IRL will do anything to screw Tracy over....what a crock of shit!

But then, a terrible decision by the stewards and controversy with Castroneves. It was like 2002 all over again! :p

Sadly, just that moment. In 2002 the oval races were very good and the cars looked great :( .

Tbh, the Castro-Neves/Tracy incident was purely a racing accident. It was a very tough call. Both cars were side by side in the narrowest part of the track, and that meant that if both touched wheels (which is what happened) it would result in carnage.

And both sides have acknowledged it that way.

Yeaa, as they both agreed it was a racing incident. Two drivers not wanting to yield and that'll happen.

The crowd certainly made their feelings known

I was actually a bit sad that the track was too narrow at that sector. I think the fight between both of them after that pass would've been very good. Also Tracy chasing Franchitti.

Jimmy Vasser didn't say Helio was his favorite actor for nothing.

PT probably should have conceeded at that corner (not really likely :p ). Just too narrow for them both.

Awesome race though :)
