Qualifications cancelled because of persistent weepers. Field set on entrant points (that's why Castroneves is on the pole, apparently he was awarded entrant points for St. Pete even though he wasn't there).

And as someone might be little confused about that line up with 30 cars. Here's a pdf-version which has the more realistic 20 cars in the grid.

I assume it's Castroneves's points plus Power's St. Pete points?

"Castroneves, who didn't compete in the No. 3 Team Penske car in the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg as his tax evasion trial continued, nonetheless received the entrant points awarded to driver Will Power..."

This is strait off the Indycar site.

It depends on if they can be running off the bottom.

Helio didn't get championship points from Power. Starting grid when rained out is set by the car points, not the driver points. So that means Helio's points plus the first race points from Power as he was using Helio's car/team. It's exactly the same as in NASCAR.

Exactly. This rule has been there for years. Like the rule that if a car qualifies to the grid with driver A, it's ok to have driver B at the wheel for the race. Like Junqueira/Tagliani at Indy500 this year.

Okay, than it's feir.
But it's a stupid rule nevertheless. And it should be changed.
How about reversed point ranking?

That would be dangerous on any level of motorsports, and even more when ten rows of cars are doing side by side over 300km/h to the first turn.

This is probably the most reasonable order by a rule. Other good choice could be having results from the practice...

They do it like that at Superleague Formula, a complete reversed grid. But I see your point of safety, especially on an oval.

Certain slow drivers cause enough problems getting lapped, think if they were fighting for position.
