I'm sorry, but that was the worst Texas race I've ever seen.

Well done Penske I guess. Shame that the tv coverage has been awful, with too many ads and too few onboards; there has certainly been some excellent action but it has'nt been captured very well. Not to mention the complete miss of any info or replays on Foyt's crash.
Oh well, bedtimes..

So many ads, was just rediculous.

I see how Marco was dissapointed with 4th, he had a strong car.

Interesting what Dixon said about how the racing was poor and that they need to open up the regulations more to create a difference between the cars. Thanksfully our free to air coverage had jack all adverts... not that I'm rubbbing it in :p

Dario ran of of fuel exiting turn 4, explains how Marco caught & passed him so quickly & why Dario's last lap was so slow.

Ahhh, I figured it was something like that, gotta feel sorry for Briscoe, he was in a class of his own which is hard to do on an oval, he's defenately asserted himself as one of the best IRL drivers

That was the worst race i've seen in Texas. And that should be sign enought that there's a problem with the regulations.

Texas used to be an exciting race, FFS.

If the IRL can't do its fabled pack racing at Texas anymore then there's really zero point in having them so downforced up to the point of them being boring.

In the old days you had crap slow cars that at least put on an artificial show.

Now you've just got crap slow cars.

There is nothing good about the IRL at the moment....

Not sure how much of an effect this would have to the aero but the IRL have moved the exhaust outlets to the top of the sidepod's for this year like in F1. Could it be possible that the exhaust gasses are messing with the aero enough to cause the difficulties with following cars closely we seem to be seeing far more this year than in the past?

That seems to be the biggest problem, when a car gets alongside they can run side-by-side & pass, however they don't seem to be able to run close enough through the turns to get alongside as easily as they could in the past.

Could be.

The sooner they switch to turbo's the better.

Could be that since the track hasn't been paved in some years, that it has less grip and it's harder to run flat out, that is probably the main factor.

Ed Carpenter's views on the race:

Quote:
I'm disappointed for the fans in particular because Texas is supposed to be exciting racing and unfortunately the cars are too similar now and it weakened the product. I've never seen this race turn into a one groove track before. We want to put on a good show and I'm afraid this was not it. You couldn't pass and you couldn't pass guys that were a lap down. It doesn't take much of a block and suddenly you find yourself running behind lapped cars all night long. It turned into a fuel strategy, track position, no passing race and no one wants that. Texas is usually the place you shouldn't have to be playing fuel strategy gambles. This is a place you should be able to drive from the back to the front and unfortunately it is just not that way right now.

Scott Dixon said something similar in his post race interview on Versus. With a bit of luck the more the drivers speak up on the matter the more chance there is of something been done to get the racing back to where it was a couple years back. Not necisarily talking about the huge pack races we saw in 2002-2003 but f we could at least see them able to run close & pass it would be an improvement over what we have currently.
