Danica Patrick isn't very good at driving race cars.

The IRL would be better off if they plucked someone like Darren Hagen, Cole Whitt, Brad Sweet, or Chad Boat from USAC and developed/marketed them instead of concentrating on Danica and Dancing With the Helio.

It's true. Nobody in America's going to give a shit about Indy Car as long as it's mostly foreigners and mediocre Americans.

The first thing IRL needs to do is to make the racing not suck balls.

Nobody really watched when the racing was better anyway.

10 year deal with VERSUS tells all you need to know about the state of the IRL.

They actually got +1 ratings, IIRC. Indy certainly was better.

The 1990s races actually got +2 ratings 8O

The first thing the IRL needs to do is get a new car and some more engine suppliers... And I don't mean wait around until 2011.

Yeah, on CBS, right?

I don't remember what channels the races were on, I know WDW races got really good ratings for some reason.

Yeah but TG wants to wait so it can coincide with the 100th Anniversary of the first Indy 500. It really is all about Indy with him, he couldn't give a damn about the sport, as he has shown.

At the pinnacle of CART, which can be argued to be 1994/1995, I believe all the races were on ABC/ESPN with Paul Page, Sam Posey and Bobby Unser calling them.

TG's changed his mind before, maybe they'll roll the new car out a year early... Be terrible if they wait until 2011 and the new car sucks too.

While we're on this topic, the new engines are going to be possibly 4 bangers or V6's with turbo's? Turbo's are great but c'mon, a twin turbo 4 cylinder in an Indycar? Somehow that doesn't seem to stack up against the all conquering 900HP turbo V8's from 10 years ago.

They should try FOX.

They could use something to show between NASCAR and NFL.

Fox was actually interested in the Indy 500 and made an offer a few months ago.

It'll be, like... 1.3 liter/4 cylinders. Some such lameness.

In the old place I had posted something similar, but the idea was 4's, 6's, 8's and normally aspirated engines all running against each other. The thought of a whole field of 1.3L of 1.5L turbo's makes my brain hurt.

A Final Tribute: Paul Newman Takes His Last Lap Around Lime Rock
Lime Rock Park was closed down for an hour and half today to honor Paul Newman. He was attended by his family, close friends, Skip Barber, mechanics on his race team, and those who happened to be at the track.

Newman toured the track in his Corvette race car with his Buick V8 powered Volvo station wagon following. He had come to say goodbye.

Diagnosed with terminal cancer he is not expected to live beyond September. Race driver, actor, humanitarian, family man and friend, they did not come any better.

Newman the award winning actor ends a four-decade long involvement in motorsports. He has a second place finish at the 24 hours of Le Mans to his credit, and won a class victory at the 1995 Daytona 24 hours at the age of 74.

Outside of the racing and acting spotlights Newman has also raised well over $200 million for charities through the sale of his Newman brand of foods.

IIRC, ABC showed all the races in the short first season, then CBS and TNN did races with ABC for a couple seasons. FOX and FOX Sports Net did races in 99. ABC/ESPN has had it all since 2000.

We knew it was coming but's so sad nonetheless.
Such an amazing talent for both acting and racing. I always wonder what could have been if he choose racing as his main job.
