Some of you probably know from elsewhere that I'm competing in the HSCC Historic Formula Ford 2000 series this year. Eddington Mains keeps everyone updated with the Funcup that he's involved in and I will keep those who are interested updated with the FF2000 series.

The first race of the season is at Donington on Sunday. I won't be racing there, or at Cadwell in a few weeks time, but I will be making my debut in the third race at Silverstone on Saturday 9th May. Spectators and photographers are welcome, tickets are only £8 if you buy online  We should be testing at Brands Hatch on Wednesday 15th April.

Going back to Donington - the MSA have issued a temporary licence to the track, because of the mess that has been made from building the new tunnel underneath the circuit. Basically, there is NO run off area between McLeans and Coppice on either the outside OR the inside of the track and a stationary yellow flag will be waved throughout all events. Anyone who makes a mistake at McLeans or Coppice will be faced with a heavy impact into the tunnel wall or an earth bank, so an MSA Race Steward will be watching carefully and if anyone does anything silly, they're going to call off the entire meeting!

Here...:
http://hscc.org.uk/calendar.html

It doesn't state what series are running in each event though.

FF2000 will be at Donny, Cadwell and Silverstone, but won't be racing again until the Oulton Park Gold Cup in August.

Whaaaaaat? :?

Is this a temporary solution because I can see this becoming an issue when "bigger" series get there..... 8O

And what if it rains....will they even bother running the race if it's so dangerous.... :?

Thanks for the info though, would appreciate some pics if there are any lying around that anyone has...

Hopefully, but if they don't get it sorted, all upcoming races at Donington will be cancelled until they sort out the mess. So far the only work they've done is build the tunnel and remove the Dunlop bridge. The infield has been dug up, but it's been in the same state since September last year and no other work has been done.

Supposedly two people passed under the yellows in Equipe GTS qualifying this morning and were sent straight home! :o

This has all the makings of a big story....
I can see the usual suspects ceasing hold of this to generate "Donington is messing up, no British GP ever" type headlines...

I wanted to believe that they knew what they were doing and all this would be fine, but the more I read about it (and the more my Dad tells me what's in the local press, since he lives in Ashby De La Zouche 2 mins from the circuit he hears a few things you don't get in the press...) the more the thing worries me.

Anyway, sidetracked....this is about your career, and best of luck with it!

As far as I'm concerned, the whole situation regarding Donington is farcical and luckily I'm not there

The career hasn't really started yet as I haven't driven the car yet :p I'm making my seat tomorrow from that expandable foam stuff and we've got some work to do on the gearbox.

I have an onboard camera and hopefully we can rig it up in time for my test session at Brands Hatch, although it's hardly a priority, but it will be there for Silverstone.

That wouldn't be possible as I'd need the recording device in the cockpit and they're not long enough...and I wouldn't want to pass them alongside the engine...you know the onboard cameras have to be properly scrutineered and I need to sign an indemnity form before I can run with it?

Side of the cockpit?

I was going to mount it on the side of the rollbar.

One thing you might want to check Paul is whether the organisers are cool with you getting footage - some governing bodies etc etc can be a bit funny with who owns the rights etc.

As I said in a post above, I have to sign a camera indemnity form for each event I do with the onboard camera.

By the way, the Donington results can be found here:

Had a MAJOR problem with the car yesterday, almost had to cancel my test session on Wednesday...We've made a temporary fix but it will make the car very difficult to drive I think. :(

Sore ankles expected tomorrow then? :?

Incidentally I've found a few Youtube vid posters from the Donington round, they didn't really capture much (they were standing at the old hairpin..outside...my favourite place tbh but no good for seeing what has happened to the track...) so I hope that when you do get out there I'll be able to see a couple of corners of your driving eventually! :p

I'm back from hospital, it turns out I fractured my radius in the crash.
