Apparently there was a very big crash in race 2 for Crestani. To quote racecontrol at ten-tenths (as the official site gives few details):

Very bad crash for Crestani in Race 2: Dalle Stelle started from the pole due to inverted grid and exing from last turn at the end of lap 1 spun and became a crazy and uncontrol car on the main straight while all the group was approaching: Crestani was very unlucky to be hit and then to crash between the two edges of the opening of the wall but was very lucky to survive the crash with no injuries...
He have showed to have a great pace all the week-end and did not get the win in race 1 only due a very bad strart. And now lost the championship leadership because of the crash. It's very dangerous to make some unexperienced drivers race with highly performance cars: Dalle Stelle was also allowed to race in GP2 Asia but at least there he would have never started from the pole... in ES3000 is no good to invert the first 8 when you have drivers


Hopefully some video will emerge, couldn't find anything on youtube.

I think they must have downgraded it to a GP2 Asia drive (with Coloni of course). That was the prize discussed recently on the website. God knows how much the handful of drivers are paying to race in a championship that's completely and utterly off the radar, all for a prize drive with a mediocre team...

To be fair he's only done 3 of the 5 rounds so far, including a win, but it's a shame to see his career derail after his GP2 problems.

So Will Bratt is the champion ... He will drive in the GP2 Asia Series. I´ve difficulties to find this series interesting ... only 11 cars 8O And yet he seems pretty happy to have won a championship without competitors. :o
We´ll see what this Will Bratt will do in the GP2 Asia series (which is not the best single seaters series...).

Bratt seemed pretty talented in F.Renault UK. Time will tell how he performs against greater competition in GP2 Asia... a pity his prize drive isn't exactly with a top team.

By the way, there are big changes for 2010, with the series becoming "Auto GP" according to italiaracing.net. I wonder if Moto GP will be upset about that name?

Budgets of 380,000 euros, paid directly to the organisers who then allocate drivers to teams (I think). Prize money of 200,000 euros per event, 80,000 for the event winner (eligible drivers must do the full season).

Series will race at 6 events with European F3 Open and International GT Open:

The Teams for the Job

Between now and December Auto GP is accepting applications from teams interested in running cars. Skill and experience will be amongst the main criteria for selection. The chosen teams will sign a contract with Auto GP, with drivers then being assigned to the successful applicants, taking into account their individual requests and preferences.

A Racer's Choice

The Auto GP car: the Lola B05/52, powered by a 550 bhp V8, 3.4 litres engine.

Wheelbase: 3.000 mm (118.1 inches)
Weight: 695 Kg (driver included)
Suspension: double wishbone with push-rod
Dampers: Ohlins TT44 3-Way, adjustable
Engine: V8 –3.400 cc – 550CV
Gearbox: Xtrac, Electronic, six gears
Brakes: AP callipers with four pistons, steel discs

During testing at Portimão, the Auto GP Lola B05/52 was faster than a World Series by Renault 3.5 car by 1.6 seconds (1:31.8 to 1:33.4), whilst in Monza, with a time of 1:36.197, it was again faster than both a World Series by Renault car (1:36.480) and a Superleague Formula car (1:36.444). Compared to F2, the Auto GP car is around six seconds a lap faster.

Race Format


The Auto GP timetable will be held over two days. During day one, two 30 minutes practice sessions will be held, followed by one 30 minute qualifying session. The second day will host Race 1 and Race 2. Qualifying rewards the pole position winner with one point and sets the grid of the first race, which is run over 40 to 45 minutes or 90 km with a mandatory pit stop. The top eight drivers score points, with the allocation scheme following Formula 1 (10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1). One extra point is awarded to the driver who sets the fastest lap of the race.

The grid for Race 2 is determined by the finishing order of the first race, with the top eight positions reversed. Race 2 is run over 30 to 35 minutes or 70 km. The top six drivers score points, with the allocation scheme following GP2 (6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1). One extra point is awarded to the driver who sets the fastest lap of the race.

Hopefully, though I still struggle to see it regaining a place in a crowded market. Which is a shame, as I'd rather watch a proper, loud, raceable car in the Lola-Zytek than the slow F2 Williams or the dull WSbR Dallaras. Now, thanks to car improvements and a bigger calendar, F2 is supposedly going to increase in cost to 330,000-350,000 euro (well done, FIA :yuk: ), so maybe some drivers will look to Auto GP instead.

Great value for drivers
Drivers can enjoy a full season of racing (six events with two races) for 380,000 Euros, an unequalled price in comparable racing series. For less than the cost of a full season in F3, Auto GP drivers will can look forward to experiencing a car that is quicker than any single seater in Europe, aside from Formula 1 and GP2.

For their 380,000 Euros the drivers sign a contract directly with Auto GP that guarantees their participation in the entire championship.

I would guess that the prize money is coming from the registration fees. 10 drivers signing up would give the series €3.8 million. Take the prize money out, and they are still left with €2.6 million, which should cover admin costs, equipment costs and transport costs.

Of course, I would expect more than 10 drivers to sign up.
